Water and land use restrictions prevent northern Arizona from being as you've stated. Snow Bowl, for example, is extremely limited in how much of it can cover the Peaks and how much artificial snow may be used. A lot of it is federally restricted, a lot of it is protected for religious purposes for the Navajo Nation. In reality the artificial snow was very bad for Navajo religious purposes, they use the flowers off the mountain which are now covered in (although filtered) sewage water.

The only other ski resort is an aging casino in Sunrise, a drought and fire prone area that is difficult to access.

The suburbs aren't cheap because of the will to grow, they are cheap because they can grow, although the market is placing a lot of upward pressure on home prices right now. It's unfortunate you can't appreciate the wettest and most diverse desert in the world, we live in a truly unique area globally.

I know we have a lot of newer residents from other states that see potential in the state, and that is great, but we have a fragile system in place that exists as is for very specific reasons.

We are first in line for water cuts in January from CAP, that will place a lot of upward pressure on water prices for industry. Next year will be very important for the direction of this state in light of this issue.

As much as I hate the idea, I may have to visit or, aghast, live there. I'm an over 40, not quite 70 year old woman & apparently would do better in the sun, or so they say. It could be they just want to get rid of me here, who knows. I did overhear someone saying cantankerous, but I'm sure they weren't talking about me. I didn't see anyone else around but...

Anyway, what's the best place for someone who doesn't like people to look at anyway?

I forgot to mention that I'm retired so have plenty of time to not meet people.

You see, Arizona sucks. The school system sucks. The politicians suck. Joe Arpaio sucks. The job market sucks. Parts are full of LDS and they suck. The people themselves suck.

You left out Kingman and Bullhead City here in northern Arizona. Looking at a map Prescott is south of me; lol, and I live in Bullhead.

Arizona sucks. Anyone who says otherwise has either had their brain melted by consistent 118 degree weather, or has been smoking the great biker crank that's been moving through here for the past 20 years.

Flagstaff is the place everyone wants to move, thus, nobody gets to move there.
Anyone who says they love hot weather, has never done construction in 118 degree heat, with jeans and a long sleeve on. More than likely they run from A/C to A/C and make decent enough money (or live off someone else ie parents/welfare) to notice the dramatic spike in utility bill from the months of May-October.

For those wanting to move here, don't..We have enough room, water, or patience for you.

If you believe this is a great place to move, I've got some awesome Arizona beachfront property I'd love to sell you.

All jokes aside I love this place, but when you grow up and spend a good 23 of 26 years in a place, it tends to grow old.

Opposites attract, my dream spot would be Washington or Idaho.
