As is....Rocky Point is a Zonie beach. People who live in Sonora bypass it for San Carlos and points south. If Trump is elected I see this town going belly up if US Mexico relationships become irreversibly soured with Trump's ideas. As far as I am concerned...better get your PP fix these next 6 months.

Yeah, no.

There are plenty of Mexicans that vacation there. PP survived the worst of the cartel violence scare and rhetoric from the AZ government.

Not to mention they cruise ship dock that is being completed.

While the town may never completely flourish, there is no basis for alarmist posts about its death.

I do not dislike PP. I hope it survives as the folks in Old Town were very friendly at the restaurants along with the hawkers. While the cruise ship is being built, way more will go FROM PP as opposed to TO PP. My concern is the Americans who own homes in Las Conchas. As the peso continues to deteriorate they will have to eat their investments big time. For now there is an RV Park on the water adjacent to Las Conchas only charging $450 plus electric per mth.

It is a benefit for them to be an origin point. People who go on cruises typically get to their origin point before the day they embark. For someone in AZ who wants to cruise they would be able to start a trip in PP and would frequently spend a night in either side of the trip there as well.

Currency fluctuations are part of it. Arizona is now more expensive for our Canadian friends to obtain. The dollar being stronger to the peso makes PP more obtainable/better value for Americans which can a spur investment.

What the heck does Trump have to do with tourism TO Mexico? It is the crime in Mexico that is keeping folks away and if Mexico every gets that resolved Arizonans will flock to PP and it will flourish.

Trump (or any other White House occupant) isn't going to keep tourists out of Mexico. Mexico needs US tourism dollars and a "soured" relationship isn't going to stop that.

Americans owning property in PP are held through a Mexican Trust issued through their bank. How much can you TRUST that if the relationship further sours ? How can someone owning in Las Conchas enforce it ?

Basically a 3rd Party Mexican Trustee is the lienholder even after you pay in cash ? Why would someone do that unless they truly have money to burn ? Again, good luck trying to enforce it if they do a bait and switch on you.

Maybe Trump could get the southern border of Arizona redrawn to include PP. It's weird how the southern border bends upward as you go west.

The thought of driving a couple of hours through Mexico just to get to a beach is not my idea of a good time. I know people who do it fairly regularly and say it's not a problem if you know what you're doing...not sure what that means, exactly...

I personally prefer San Diego for many reasons although I do not dislike PP. With Sea of Cortez while there is very good fishing , I like to ride waves. From that standpoint PP serves little purpose. It is essentially Havasu or Powell with saltwater and more fishing opportunities.

Alto means STOP and 100 kph equals 60 mph. It is funny the road to PP says 85 kph yet many Zonies go 85 MPH. It is quite remote for those 60 miles and very little to help you if your wheels breakdown especially if you did not get cell coverage while in Sonora.

There are very frequent call boxes along the road and it is well traveled. Get Mexican insurance for your auto before driving down. Travel during daylight hours. Nothing crazy, it it's an easy road and about an hour from the border to PP
