In my case, APS pushed me to switch to one of their electronic smart meters early on, due to access problems - even though I kept telling them the access problems were their own fault.

I was unhappy to read that the electronic versions have been shown to have a tendency to overcharge customers. And now I read that they've been linked to cancer! Is that valid? Has anyone had any discussions with APS about this? Obviously, businesses and government routinely assure has everything's fine, but I don't know how much to trust that.

Well, I trust you realize at this very moment in the Phoenix metro you have countless HF/VHF/UHF/micro wave signals floating around/absorbed by you from countless devices as you read this?

Do you use a cellphone? I'd worry more about that than this meter.

(But then, I don't worry about much. I still eat beef and don't give a rat's patooty if it's organic, grass fed, hormone free, or massaged by 47 virgins. All I care about is the price per pound, cooking it rare, and how good it tastes. Especially with a glass of wine.)

Don't computers create the same radiofrequency radiation as the meters?(Like the ones we are reading this post on right now?)

Actually, the old, spinning dial meters were inaccurate when it came to reading inductive and capacitive loads. So the new meters are more accurate, it just looks like they are overcharging you because they are now able to more accurately pick up on these non-resistive loads.

A colleague and I did some studies on this several years ago... It actually started out as a science project to determine if the hype surrounding the energy savings of CFL light bulbs was legitimate. What we discovered was, yes, the CFL bulbs would save you money if used with the old style meters (which most people had back then), but if you had the new smart meter, not so much. Can't remember the exact numbers right now, but I do remember we determined that if you had a smart meter, the extra cost of CFL's could not be justified over the incandescent bulbs.

Again, this was several years ago, back when the smart meters were just coming out.

No, 2 electrical engineers in our 40's that were innately curious and just acting like teenagers!

This is a big conspiracy theory that has been proven false by multiple scientific studies. This thread should be locked, end of story.

Voebe,

I have an environmental illness, so much in our daily lives make me ill. Smart meters are very bad for us. Some of our internet group members have succeeded in having the smart meters removed and have shared info on how to get rid of them.

I have sample letters (would have to search for them) to various agencies from those getting headaches/ill and succeeded in getting the smart meters removed.
