So I am currently looking to move from Ohio to Arizona. I have two children (6 and 3 years old). I have a daycare job that is privately owned and does not do transfers. I have some money saved up so I can pay a few months of rent and bills.

I have found a place on Zillow that is in Duncan, AZ. But I have never heard anything about Duncan.

So my question would be does anybody have any suggestions on this move? (ex. Places to live, school districts, daycares or Pre K programs, babysitters or nannies, jobs, cheapest way to move across US, etc.). Any suggestions would help. Thank you.

My first question is why would you choose Duncan, AZ? The population is around 700 and it is 4 miles west of the Arizona/New Mexico line. In other words, it's far from civilization. Do you have family or friends there?

Duncan wasn't my final decision. I was looking on Zillow for apartments and houses and the house that I found was more in my budget for the moment. I don't have any family or friends anywhere in Arizona. But that piece of information was helpful. Thank you. How is Yuma? I found some places in Yuma also.

If you want to find a job, you need to be near a decent sized city. Yuma is a step up from Duncan, but it's not exactly a booming metropolis, and there are no other cities within a reasonable commute (on this side of the border anyway). But you haven't given enough information for people to make recommendations. What is your budget and how big of a place are you looking for? Rents down here are probably going to be higher than in most of Ohio to get similar accommodations.

Also, zillow isn't the best source for rentals. A lot of those ads are out of date and frankly most landlords just don't post there. Check craigslist instead. You'll have to search by individual metro area, but you'll get a much better idea of what rents cost in different places, and there will be A LOT more listings. You'll want to stick to Phoenix or Tuscon if you need to find a job right away (the metro areas, you'll probably want to be on the outskirts of either if you're on a tight budget).

+1 ^^ that. Duncan is way out in the middle of nowhere. Yuma is much larger, but again not too desirable. Cue up the Yuma folks for the flames, lol.

I found good accommodations on craigslist as well. I was very blessed to get a good job at the right time up here on the mountain.

Move to Phoenix. Or at least Tucson. Everywere else is just cactuses (okay, cacti) and tumbleweeds.

Haha - that is a super over exageración but it's based on reality.

Arizona is not like Ohio or the Northeast where there are a lot of populated towns nestled in between hills. You either live in the big cities or you live out in the middle of nowhere. What other reasons are you moving to Arizona?

Troll thread.

NOBODY is going "stumble" upon Duncan (at one extreme side of the state) and then jump to Yuma at the other.

Please, do not move your kids anywhere until you have done both of these things:

(1) found a job or at least put together a solid understanding of the potential job market for someone with your education, skills and experience in the area you're considering

AND

(2) visited the area in person to see if it is a place where you'd feel comfortable raising your kids.

If it was just you, you could take risks. You could sleep in your car if you can't find a job. And, a single adult can move on if a place doesn't pan out.

But, with kids, it's a different ball game. Kids need stability, and that means a parent who knows where they are going. You owe it to your children to have a realistic plan for your move that includes in-depth knowledge of the area and potential job market (or better yet, an actual job lined up) BEFORE your move.

Just picking places off of the internet based on rental prices is a recipe for disaster for your kids, and I'm willing to bet you're a better Mom than that.

Good luck!
