This Fall, up for vote will be a half-cent tax increase for road projects in Pinal County.

I was wondering, does anyone think this tax will pass? I have some doubts since many who live in Pinal County choose to live there for lower taxes.

Here are the full list of projects:
County ballot issue could add lanes to SR 347 | InMaricopa

If the people living out in Maricopa, San Tan Valley and even Florence are smart, they will pass this, otherwise their commutes will get worse and worse

I think much of it will depend on what feels like it will really happen economic development wise. It is pretty clear they are trying to open up the eastern half of the county to more economic opportunities with the big focus being the north/south road from Coolidge to AJ - and the roads FROM Casa Grande east into Coolidge and connecting with that North South road (Kortsen, Selma etc.). If people feel projects like Lucid Motors, Dreamport Villages, Attesa etc. are real - they may see the need for these improvements sooner rather than later.

I am a supporter of the tax (not a usual thing for me) mainly because it will ensure the Kortsen Rd/I 10 interchange will be done more quickly - that is a major game changer for us in CG. Already there are lots of more "urban" plans approved for the land between our current mall at Florence Blvd and the 2 miles north up to this proposed Kortsen interchange. Things like 4 and even 5 story apartments, a hospital - auto park etc. All of which for me make sense.

Plus there will need to be another access point east to Phoenixmart - which IS actually being built - just drove out there today to see the latest progress. Florence (Hwy 287)/I 10 will become a real mess with several thousand more cars a day at that interchange alone - this would help.

BUT - to answer the question posed? You never know in Pinal County - the demographics ARE changing here and it isn't all "no more taxes" - but there are still a good amount of those folks in the more rural areas....so it will be a toss up!

Just as an update, the bill seems to have the support of both the leaders of the Pinal County Democratic Party and the Pinal County Republican Party, as well as all of the mayors of Pinal County.

I am a bit surprised there hasn't been any pre-election polling done yet. Still, I think this will be a tough sell for Pinal County voters.

Those voters must think roads are free....

Actually - my non scientific observations from someone down here - based on all the Facebook action this gets is that it very well may pass.

Of course there are the hard core folks in the "no more taxes for anything, ever" crowd being loud - but based on the comments from posts in local group pages and on their ads - combined with the middle grounders who will see exactly what you point out - that there is BROAD support from all sorts of groups from all spectrums - it might stand a chance.

There is virtually no ORGANIZED opposition that I have seen - all the people against just keep pointing to the (in my view) somewhat dubious "Arizona Free Enterprise Group" article somewhat suspect on the facts.

Looks like there is some more organized opposition:
Opposition group emerges against Prop 417 | Area News | pinalcentral.com

I see this failing in a landslide, with No getting at least 60% of the vote for both propositions.

Well, then they will just scratch their heads and wonder what went wrong by the time it takes two hours to drive up 347 from Maricopa to the 10 or up Ironwood to the 60 from San Tan Valley....😒

Disagree - I think it is going to be very close - there is much more support than you may think. The opposition is very vocal in these sorts of things - but more often than not there is a silent majority who wants the growth to come, and more and more are willing to support it.

As for the "organized" opposition - far too little too late....Mr Van is a very nice man (yes, I have met him, and yes I meant to rhyme!), and he voices his opinion - which of course he has every right to do - but he does not have the resources to really put up much of a fight - especially this late in the game.

The Free Enterprise people are doing more from a social media campaign, and threatening lawsuits etc. - but still I have not seen a single "NO on 416& 417" and virtually every editorial is in support.

I am not saying it WILL pass - I am saying it wont be a landslide either way.
