I'm of the opinion that speed limits are almost universally too low and designed around the lowest common denominator of drivers in mind... ones texting, putting on makeup, with a donut in their hand at the same time.

There are towns with speed limits of 20 trying to keep people down to 25.. I can ride my road bike that fast.. way too slow in the areas I've seen them.

I just go at a speed I feel comfortable with and have never gotten a ticket. Typically that's only 5 above though. I live in the middle of nowhere, and back when I lived in eastern WI, it was a speeding culture and still is. People routinely go 15-20 above on roads out there. For someone not used to rush hour traffic on I-43 in downtown Milwaukee it was a bit skittish at first but I appreciated the efficiency of the traffic.

My big pet peeve now is waiting at stop lights when there's no cross traffic. When I mentioned this to my father he confided he will also go at red lights after stopping.

Exactly. I think there are some roads that are currently posted at 55 that can be raised to 60 (the southern portion of I-17 comes to mind, and perhaps some rural arterials currently posted at 55), and some roads that are currently posted at 65 that can be raised to 70 (some suburban Phoenix freeways and some rural divided expressways).

In fact, I actually read on another site that I visit that the pre-NMSL speed limit on I-17 in Phoenix was in fact 60 mph. Ever since the NMSL was repealed, the 55 mph speed limit was retained.

You get a new respect for speed limits, and especially the yellow speed signs around curves, when you drive a semi-tractor. I never speed anymore

Remember that the yellow speed signs are just advisory speeds, and not the legal speed limit, and are thus not enforceable.

The yellow signs are meant specifically for us commercial drivers, to avoid rollovers, so we have to obey those for our own good

Isn't it illegal in Arizona to go the speed limit?

I've seen Sheriffs going 100 on the Interstate before. Of course that was out west of Buckeye in the middle of no where.

When there isn't heavy traffic I will go about 80 on the 101, and I'll still get passed by a few cars. You know what they always say, never be the fastest on the road, but the second fastest
