Default Looking for places to explore

I know I posted a thread about a vacation a few months ago. So, we've decided to kind of wing it. My husband and I are planning a road trip in May. We'll have our dog with us, and our camping gear just in case we can't find a hotel.

Anyway, we're going for about 5 or 6 days and plan on checking out different parts of AZ. He's never seen the Grand Canyon, so I guess we'll be hitting that. We definitely will check out Sedona. Other than that, we don't really know.

Anyone have some places that are high on their must-see list? I'd love to go to Antelope Canyon - all pics I've seen are beautiful. Please chime in and give me your opinion. We like all things outdoors - hiking, camping, canoing, etc. I'd like to find some places that are off the beaten path, too - not into bumping into a ton of tourists to try to get a nice picture (although I'm sure we'll have that at the Grand Canyon ).

Antelope Canyon and Zion for sure (allow as much time as you can for Zion).

Places I haven't yet been but would love to see include Bryce Canyon National Park and Monument Valley.

Are those still AZ or UT? We've been to Canyonlands and Arches up in So. Utah and it's unbelievable, but we didn't have time for Bryce or Zion at that time.

Monument Valley is in northern Arizona. Bryce and and Zion (which is incredible) are near to each other in Southern Utah.

Gee, people! Shame on ya! The question is about AZ and the suggestions about UT and NV...

The Painted Desert comes to my mind as a unique place to see.

Since you'll be in this area anyway, you may wanna check out Montezuma Castle National Monument.

Montezuma Castle National Monument and Montezuma Well, Camp Verde, Arizona

Have a fun trip!

Yeah, that's true, and the Vermillion Cliffs.
Geeze, the fact is there is SO much to see in the northern Arizona/southern Utah area. We passed through there only briefly and were astounded by the whole area - I mean within a relative small area you have Sedona (worth a long stay all by itself in my opinion), the Grand Canyon, Painted Desert, etc, etc etc.

Clearly one of the most scenic areas of the entire US.

Our next drive down to the area (whenever that is) we hope to spend some time in Page - which is a good central location for many of these trips.

Bryce Canyon is definitely beautiful! IMO, it's a lot prettier than Grand Canyon.
