Does anyone know if there are cheap places in the mountians of Arizona (preferably with a small aircraft airport? My wife and I took a trip there and loved Sedona and Flagstaff but they looked like $$$$$. But I cant imagine every single plot of land in the mountians of AZ are big bucks?

The sedona airport looked nice and also looked like big $$$$$$, I did not even want to ask what hangar space would cost.

Maybe look in the Whetstone area. While the area isn't as mountainous as northern Arizona, quite a few of the homes are nestled near the Whetstone range. Nearby Sierra Vista has a small municipal airport. Prices down this way are much more reasonable than prices near Sedona.

Show Low has a fairly nice regional airport. You can find properties of all range of prices here.

There was a recent thread from someone who was determined to do this.

Cheap land in AZ usually comes without water, sewage treatment, electricity, gas, or internet access. 4WD may (will?) be needed when it rains.

Why don't you try some of the remote airparks? Live with your plane.

Eagle Roost in Aguila and Indian Hills in Salome are two that come to mind. But there are more.

Probably doesn't fit your requirement of "mountains" but it's hard (and expensive) to build an airstrip on a mountain.

thank you so much for the suggestions, i will have to start looking into this once I deal with some more pressing issues that recently came up, i realize my love of the high alpine combined with being a pilot is a bad combination.

This was an assumption on my part but Sedona/flagstaff areas looked to be VERY expensive and the Sedona airport looked like the hangar space had a mile long wait list with a price tag to match. Of course this is an assumption and I could be wrong ....

People coming from CA will find Sedona and Flagstaff a bargain. Those coming from a medium cost of living city in the northeast may find the total cost of housing lower. Those coming from the deep south will find these areas expensive.

It's all a matter of perspective.
