Exclamation Weekend in Tuscon or Sedona?

I'm travelling to AZ this weekend, leaving my 3 young kids with DH to have some peace and quiet and warm, sunny weather (from Chicago!).

I am using miles/points etc. If I go to Tuscon and stay at the La Paloma, I can stay for free. However, I really want to go to Sedona. I've heard so much about the beauty and....energy there and it sounds like just what the doctor ordered.

This is where I need advice: is it worth going to Sedona or is Tuscon equally as nice? (I've never been to AZ)? ALso, where would you advise staying in Sedona?

Is it possible or even advisable to do BOTH in the 4 days/3 nights I'll be there, i.e. rent a car and drive from Tuscon to Sedona for a night? Again, any advice on where to stay?

Thank you so much for your help in answering my questions, I'm desperate for an escape!

Sedona is WAY more beautiful, but Tucson will be warmer, although it's supposed to be in the 70's this weekend in the high country (Sedona). They are nothing alike so can't give comparisons. If you plan to hang around a resort and swim and relax, then go for Tucson. If you want to be out seeing scenery and enjoying amazing beauty, then do Sedona. Look at each place on-line...not too hard to see the differences that way

(I would pick Sedona myself )

I've never been to Tucson so I'm not sure if I should be commenting, but I can tell you that Sedona is absolutely gorgeous. It's also relatively near the Grand Canyon and Canyon de Chelly if you wanted to sightsee some more (I believe it's somewhere in between of the two, and slightly south.) I'd go Sedona.

I'd second that.

I agree with esselcue and (as pretty much always) sierraAZ.

Sedona is one of the most unique and beautiful places on earth - but it is at a higher elevation so it will be cooler.

Tucson has nice scenery too, and will be warmer but is not comparable scenery-wise to Sedona.
