I would like to know how people in Arizona feel about the security of our borders. Would you volunteer your own time to keep your State and Country safe? Or do you not care?

If you’ve ever lived down there you’d find that increased militarization is a bad thing down there and disrupts your daily life. For example, some people living south of Tucson and commuting to Tucson have to deal daily with a border patrol stop. I prefer my own privacy than the perceived border problems of people who don’t even live here.

Heck, before 9/11 you could go down there for the day and come back with no passport or lines. Today? Not worth it.

I think the perception of safety related to border security is exaggerated thanks to our current leader. I volunteer my time to help immigrants and refugees who in my opinion are not posing a safety threat to our country.

You have a right to your opinion, but I'm all for helping Americans, not immigrants or refugees.

Safe from what? I don’t feel the least bit threatened by illegal border crossers. Illegal immigration has happened since this country was founded. It will continue to happen as long as the US has a more desirable economy and is deemed to be a safer place than the countries people are escaping from. Living in Phoenix, there are probably thousands of people around me daily who are undocumented. The vast majority lead a quiet life and are just trying to make a living like everyone else. I don’t feel the need to “protect” the country from people like that.

I think our Border Patrol is working effectively to keep us safe. I can't say I feel threatened by the typical border crosser, although it is kind of alarming to encounter one (or a group) out in the boonies. They have always wanted to get the heck away from me as soon as possible. I feel the number of Mexican rapists and other violent criminals is blown out of proportion, and I also think the terrorism threat is pretty minimal. The cartels running drugs and people through the desert are definitely a problem. Fortunately the associated violence has largely stayed south of the border. It's not that I don't care about security, I just don't see the need for a volunteer militia, or an impenetrable wall for that matter.

Are you implying that if people don't want to volunteer to go to the border that they don't care?
