My guess is Colorado hasn't had any razor thin elections recently so voter's never notice any delay in calling a winner. Winners are easy to call when there is a big vote difference between candidates.

You may be right to some extent, although Denver County seems to be 100% counted on Election Day, other counties aren’t.

Your speculation is nothing but partisanship at its worst. I know my ballot is mine. I get an email from the state the day it is sent out. If it doesn’t arrive I can fill out a provisional ballot. I get another email from them when they have accepted it after I return it.

The store is being watched by the elected County Recorder for each county. In Marciopa County, Arizona's largest, that is Adrian Fontes.

The same county that gave all of these GOP candidates wins:
  1. - Governor Doug Ducey an easy second term,
  2. - Mark Brnovich as the AG,
  3. - Kimberly Yee as State Treasurer.
US GOP house members
  1. - Andy Biggs,
  2. - David Schweikert,
  3. - Andy Biggs,
  4. - Debbie Lesko.

For the most part the election has gone exactly how most expected, very tight on the races for senate, corporation commission and education. I'd question the legitimacy if the races weren't as close as they are.

I agree all this should be handled better but for sake of comparison Denver County is tiny compared to Maricopa county. The state of AZ also had a record turnout, it may very well turn into the highest % turnout for a mid-term election ever. There was also a record number of provisional ballots turned in on election day.

The battle for senate here was very heated, one of the most contested in the country. The closest major race in Colorado was still a 5% difference in votes. We still have 3 within 2% as of yesterday's counts.

It's important to note the turnout. Arizona is 49 out of 50 for voter turnout, even on federal elections (Hawaii is last place). About only 1/3 of Arizonans vote. If we get even close to half of Arizonans voting it'll be a miracle in and of itself.

As of typing this post, Sinema has the lead with ~30,400 more votes. Maricopa County shows 100% of ballots being counted. Pima county is at 99%, Yuma at 98%. Everywhere else is also 100%. Yuma has a chance of creating more Republican votes, but Pima County will most likely be more Sinema votes.

I think it's safe to say Arizona is a purple state, and it's finally starting to show.

When you mail it in, it would make sense to have some extra scrutiny to make sure that's the real deal since that person who voted by mail should've never checked in at any polling place (the backhand way of saying, voter ID for mail in ballots).

Computers or scanners doesn't really perform the scrutiny as well as a human does... and thus the delay if there's a large amount of mail in ballots.

The other option? Get rid of the mail in ballot then or get rid of the extra scrutiny.
why cant we vote online?

we can bank, buy, sell online but not vote?

I'm guessing it all comes down to the handwritten signature. That said, the IRS lets you submit your taxes electronically, so yeah, why not?

Because the government would have to spend so much time fending off hackers that they'd never get around to counting the votes.
