I think this is a disgrace. The election is over. And they are still counting ballots. Why? Can't someone step up and give the bean counters some equipment or some help so this doesn't keep happening? We need to know voting results on the day of the election, not a week later. JMHO

Does it matter?
If it's close history tells us that the loser will challenge the vote anyway.
I don't like the way various states count the stuff either.
You just are not sure that your vote really counts the way you intended it to.
While I did not care for either Hillary or Trump I still don't understand how she could win the vote with numbers and still lose the election.
But that's the way the system is set up by our states and politicians.

The Electoral College determines who wins the presidency, established by the US Constitution.

They don’t count late ballots unless the margin is so small that they have to. Here they have to. There’s a snag because the GOP is trying to block them from counting and claiming they aren’t checking signatures closely enough.

Because you're allowed to vote in person on election day at the polls or mail in your ballot.

When you mail it in, it would make sense to have some extra scrutiny to make sure that's the real deal since that person who voted by mail should've never checked in at any polling place (the backhand way of saying, voter ID for mail in ballots).

Computers or scanners doesn't really perform the scrutiny as well as a human does... and thus the delay if there's a large amount of mail in ballots.

The other option? Get rid of the mail in ballot then or get rid of the extra scrutiny.

This is nothing new and not a disgrace.

This timeline was laid out on election day.

The official tally usually lags the results.

In many cases it doesn't matter because the spread on the candidates votes exceeds the statistic probability of the remaining votes being significant to the result

In this case it does.

No one is scheduled to take office today.

Or tomorrow.

Out the day after.

Or the day after that.

Or this month.

Collect the ballots, verify them and count them.

All of them that they can.

A problem that doesn't need to be fixed as it's really not a problem.

Why do you "need" to know? Do you have to cover your bet to your bookie or something? Miss the over/under on Ducey/Garcia?

Yes, it does need to be fixed. With all the push to Go Vote, people would like to know their vote actually counted. Read the news. There is a group trying to eliminate all those votes that were not counted before the voting day ended.

It’s a public record. If the “people” can’t figure out how to look that’s on them.

The “group” you refer to is the Republican Party.

If you want to make sure your vote counts, then taking the time to actually count the votes seems like it's a pretty consistent step

If your news outlet of choice didn't detail that the group that brought a recent court challenge (the Republican Party) wasn't trying to eliminate all votes that were not counted before voting day ended, then maybe you need to read more reputable news or improve comprehension.

The votes in question were the mail in ballots.

Many like voting from home, but are uneasy either dropping ballots in the mail or getting locked in to a vote when they could be undecided on an issue where new information may drop between the safe mail cutoff date (6 days prior) and election day.

It is permissible to drop your mail ballot at a polling place on election day - it just needs to get there before polls close. You still need to seal and sign the envelope and include your phone number.

Once your signature is verified the ballot is opened and or into the tally process.

If your signature isn't a clear match to what is on record (typically from your ID) then they call the number to try and verify.

What was being contested was to not put into process any ballot that they were not able to verify a signature prior to the end of the day.

It wasn't all ballots, mail in ballots or all ballots dropped that day.

Just ones that needed additional verification when the verification hadn't been completed at that time.

This argument was rejected and wouldn't have applied to most of the outstanding votes left to be counted
