Default Poverty with a View

If you're considering moving to Flagstaff, you owe to yourself to listen to KNAU's series, "Poverty with a View" that is airing this week on their station and is supposed to be picked up by NPR's Local News Initiative. Go to knau.org to hear the stories.

What about the issues with the schools in Flag? I pulled them up in the stats and found them scored sooo low. I asked one local about the schhols, all she had to say was look at the huge std rate in them :0. I have never had someoen bring up STD rates in discussing a place to live. We loved Flag just have a couple reservations I have to dig through. Is there many church groups etc for teens?

I have read in other Flagstaff posts how horrible it is there as far as jobs and such, but we are a family who has different issues that needs some info. First of all, we live in Vegas now. My husband has two businesses here and 1 more getting ready to open. This town is a horrible town for children and we have two young ones that we are concerned about. The schools here are some of the worst in the country and we would like to go to a place with good public schools or we will have to spend about 7000 a year on private schools for them. I read how good the schools are in Flagstaff and I was wondering if anyone had info on that. Also, my husband would be commuting to Vegas 3 days a week to get work done in his businesses if we decide to move. Need a second opinion on that. I am originally from PA and I miss the small town atmosphere and I can't stand the weather here in Vegas. I miss cloudy days, rain, and snow. Is this something I can find in Flagstaff? We were looking at houses in Mountainaire and Katchina Village. Does anyone have info on them? I have lots of questions. Feel free to email me personally if you don't want to post on here, but with the housing market way down we were thinking we better jump on some of the deals out there. Also, we are not wasteful people. We are kinda hippie like and love to give back to the environment.
You and your family are perfect for Flagstaff. You will love it. We try and get up there as often as we can for the wonderful weather, shopping, hippies, outdoor activities, etc.

After almost a year here, I would say the middle school my kids attend (on the east end of town) is better than the school they went to in New Mexico. Flag is too pricey for us, and though we like it here, we may have to move on before we can't AFFORD to leave.
