We have not been out to Ft. Bowie as of yet. Past by it several times while headed down Hwy 181 from the Chiricahuas towards Wilcox. Have made many trips down to Douglas, over to Bisbee, Tombstone, and most other areas in this part of the state though. Will add photos of Tombstone and Bisbee to album tomorrow.

Great coffee. It was available also at our little grocery store in town, The Produce Wagon, but I have not been in there for a few weeks. Usually just load up on the coffee we need when we are in Bisbee. Nice to get out on day trips to local tourist areas, makes us feel like we are on a constant vacation.

Thanks Ken, I will get out and take more photos of the Village as it is hard to find any other than the ghost town and golf course on the internet.

You're quite welcome. As I've mentioned several times on this board, we stopped by Sunsites briefly a couple a years back and I REALLY liked the community. It was a bit too remote for us, but aside from that, I thought it was terrific - clean, neat, prosperous-looking, reasonably priced - and with beautiful views. For folks looking for someplace quiet and peaceful (and with great weather) Sunsites could be a wonderful choice.

The remoteness is what has kept this town from growing rapidly. After living here now, we have learned to plan our shopping trips. We make a trip once a week to Benson to shop at Safeway and Wal-Mart. If we need items for home repair or remodel we use Benson Lumber or the in town hardware store. Other items we get in Sierra Vista and Tucson. After a day into the larger cities, it really is nice to get back to the remoteness of this area. This place really grows on you.
Developers have come in and bought up a lot of vacant land around us. On the south edge of the Village along Treasure Road a planned community of 3500 homes, parks, bike paths is planned. Off Geneva Road in the center of the golf course 750 condominiums are planned. To the north edge of the Village another planned development. The crashing of the real estate market the past couple years has put everything on hold for now. If the homes start getting built, stores will come to Sunsites. We left Southern California to get away from the rate race and now hate to see things change here. Hopefully the changes will remain slow.

Yeah, I have no doubt growth will come eventually. Same thing happened up near our land at J-6 Ranchettes. There's lots of development on hold right now, but it will resume once the economy recovers.

We have seen growth in that area just in the 3 1/2 years we have been here.
Unfortunately, over time Benson and Tucson will grow into one big city much like Southern California did. The Baby Boomer generation will be looking to move to where there is good weather and cheap living. Hard to beat this area weather wise and with no real natural disasters (earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes).

Benson will never grow to completely merge with Tucson - mainly because the 15 mile stretch of I-10 between SR83 and the J-6/Mescal exit is all state land that cannot be built on. This provides a bit of a buffer between the greater Benson area and the Tucson sprawl that's been edging out towards Vail. This is the reason there's been development out at the Whetstone area - that 15 mile stretch of vacant state-owned land had to be "leapfrogged" by developers looking for more land to build on, so they leapt from Vail all the way out to Whetstone.
