Guy,
CEB and a Adobe are not the same. CEB is ten times as strong, does not require sun baking, contains no vegetable matter which rots and attracts bugs, and is uniform in size, shape and weight. Adobe is a sun dried mud brick. CEB is compressed earth (10,000 pounds or more). CEB is suitable for moderately wet climates.

I always love photos of Sunsites. It REALLY is a NICE little community. I would have considered buying there but for the fact that it's a bit more remote than we wanted. Still, it's LOVELY.

Ken, it's the remoteness that many of us come here for. You have the peace and quiet of a small town, but an hour away from Tucson, Sierra Vista, Douglas, and Safford for major shopping. Benson and Wilcox are only 30 minutes away for most purchases and fast food if you must. You plan your trips and it becomes no big deal. Once every other week you make a day out of it, get your taste of traffic, rude people, and the rat race, then go home and relax. And if you don't want to go into a large city, everything you need to live can be bought here in town.

Actually we are glad most people feel it is too far out and doesn't have "all" the conveniences they are looking for, keeps this a small quiet town.

It's really beautiful out there and I don't blame you for wanting to keep it small and quiet. I feel the same way about Cottonwood, up in the Verde Valley, but I remember when it truly was "small and quiet". It still is to a degree, and certainly compared to other towns/cities in AZ, but I really miss the "old" Cottonwood. I love living here though. The weather is just this side of perfect most of the time. Town is big enough we can get everything we need to live our daily lives. BUT for any major shopping, other than Wal Mart, it's at least an hour drive in any direction to get there. If I want to experience anything "big city" I drive over the mountain to Prescott, or UP the mountain to Flagstaff. And those two are enough for me! Always glad to get home and relax.

Oh yeah, I understand - and can appreciate that.
It just wasn't quite right for us.
Great place though for those seeking what you mention.

I know what you mean Ken, J-6 area has a remote feel but not far from a major city. I think you did well with the area you chose.

I on the other hand can only hope people feel Sunsites is to remote for majority of the people. I have 15-20 years before I can retire and hope by then the area still has the same sense of community. Things can change so fast in arizona.

Guess time jumped over me on the "adobe" and "compressed earth" issue! Seein' that picture of the old Pearce store reminds me of the many quarter's of beef I helped my dad carry in there when Albert Rothe owned that old store! We also supplied quartered beef to the Copper Queen Hospital in Bisbee, the PD store in Bisbee, the Cochise County Hospital at Douglas and the PD store there as well and Zavala's Food and Kazell Bros. grocery stores in Douglas as well as other grocer's and restaurants in the southern part of the county. Biggest rodeo's in southern part of the state were at my dad and grandad's ranch on Turkey Creek in the late 30's. Still have some of the old rodeo posters! Lotsa memories down that way!

Wow! I've been gone for awhile!

My wife is Blessed . . .

Steve, unless you got other property than off from Birch road, your probably 20+ miles from Turkey Creek area (go to Sunizona, North on Hwy 181 about 10 mi)

But . . . there is a little place right on the corner of Birch and Hwy 191, can't think of the name, but it is a butcher shop . . . I'm getting old!

County map shows the head of turkey creek just north of my place. Sulpher Springs is in the same section.
