Pearce/Sunsites
Hi Indian..........at one time there were quite a few people posting on the Pearce thread, one fellow new a lot of history on the area, another was moving to Cochise County. I'm not sure where everyone has disappeared to. Anyway, I head out to Cochise County every year to camp, relax and absorb some history. Are you a life long resident of the area?

Hi desrt miniac, noop, moved down here 3 1/2 years ago when I retired. Researched the area for a couple years prior to buying a lot in Sunsites. Planned on building a home on the lot but once the time came didn't want to wait for a house to be built. So we bought one already standing. Can't think of any area I would rather be, hard to beat the weather and great people down here. I did have to hide the car keys from the wife during the first year here but the area finally grew on her so everything is peachy now.

Do you camp out or stay in a RV? Wildlife is what I love most, what kind of animals do you see there?

The winters here are fairly mild. Days usually in the low to mid 60's. Nights do get cold and can get into single digits in January. Usually get one or two days of snow, usually at night then it melts off by noon the next day. Had one day last January, two days last year.
Will post some pics when I get a chance.

We own a 1900 sq ft brick home here in the Village. We do have RV parks here in town or you can stay up at the camp ground at Cochise Stronghold. No water or hooks ups available there though.
Hundreds of different bird types can be seen here, both local types and migratory. Lots of Quail, rabbit, coyote, havalina, snakes, bob cats, mule deer, white tail deer, brown bear. Most of the larger animals stay up near the Dragoon Mountains.

I'm a tent camper but I'm seriously thinking of buying an A-Frame camper, then I can bring my dogs with. Last year at Chiricuhua NM I saw alot of coatimundi, turkey vultures, deer, scorpians, tarantulas and the occassional illegal immigrant.

Great camping areas in the Stronghold, the Chiricahuas and down in Rucker Canyon. Plenty of wild life and yes the illegals do pass through here trying to get to Tucson and Phoenix before they get caught and get their free bus ride back to the border.
