Vortexes in Sedona
Has anyone visited any of the vortexes in Sedona? Was it a "spiritual" experience/journey? Just wondering if it's worth it.

I grew up there and have been to the vortexes, if you're lucky, someone usually has left you some money under the rock in the middle of them. It's worth it to hike to one of the vortexes for the exercise and nice views.

I used to sense an energy there many years ago. Just went there last year. Went to the airport vortex. Now all you see are housing developments on one side . Sedona is pretty though and worth a trip no matter no what. Camping is even more fun down in the canyon.

I went up there once and felt something stirring in my soul, too. It was odd at first, I didnt know what was coming over me. I felt like I was being overwhelmed by some force stirring withing my gut. I closed my eyes for a few seconds and the feeling intesified. Just then the wind picked up, thank goodness, to conceal an enormous arse blast that otherwise would have made everyone within a 20 ft radius chuckle out loud (and maybe choke too).
It was then I realized that my lunch at Oaxaca's (Mexican restaurant in town) was making its way through me at an astonishing pace.
Seriously though, never felt anything spiritual at any of the vortices.

I'm of the opinion that the spiritual effects attributed to Sedona are due to the fact that Sedona is one of those places that - because of their incredible and almost surreal beauty - tend to evoke the same exact thought/emotion in many many people. That thought is "How can someplace this incredible be a mere accident of geology?"
Seriously, the place is so beautiful, exotic and - lets face it - strange - in appearance, that it simply doesn't seem real. It seems unatural - with an almost artificial aspect to it (even though CLEARLY it is NOT Man-made). I have felt similar feelings in Yosemite Valley and (especially) on Bora Bora - which for me was truly spiritual experience. I hesitate to say that I felt the presence of God because the fact is, I'm NOT a religious person. It did however feel intensly spiritual and I'm convinced it was because I was so in awe of the beauty that surrounded me.
I've felt a touch of this in Sedona, in Yosemite Valley and on a few occasions, deep in the glades of the Oympic Rain Forest. In each of these cases I was always surrounded by what I perceived as the absolute and total perfection of nature - of a beauty beyond measure (and nearly beyond comprehension really) - and in each case each experience brought me a profound sense of peace - a feeling of "oneness" I guess I could call it, with all the world around me.
It was an intense feeling that even if I were to die at that very moment, everything would be OK - that all the energy of life within me would diffuse to the world around me and pass my essence on to it, feeding the trees and the grass and the animals all about me. It was extremely peaceful feeling and I can say with absolute truth that it put me at peace with my eventual mortality - a mortality which in truth we must all face one day - and that sense of peace about life and death remains with me to this very day.
As I said, I have felt a bit of this in all those place - most especially on Bora Bora however, which truly was a life-changing experience for me. I felt it stir in Sedona however, even if ever so slightly.
While I can't say for sure that this is the experience others have had there, I can say that I believe that that probably is the case and my explanation for it, is quite possibly the underlying cause.
In any event, Sedona IS stunningly beautiful and I'm sure that someday I will return (for a much longer stay next time).
And I've no doubt I will feel it again upon my return.

Hi Stumblina
Have you sold your condo in MI? Last year when I was in Sedona I had planned on going to the vortex near the airport but when I got their you had to have a sticker. I was close thou I don't know if it was the vortex or the beautiful view but I felt something.

Most vortexes are caused by the euphoria of the iron in the sandstone reacting with your brain. It is like closing your eyes, looking up, then spinning in circles a few times before opening you eyes and falling on your arse. Same feeling only your eyes are open (some like them closed) and you are sitting.
The major problem is everyone goes to these vortexes expecting a huge trip and many are saddened when nothing happens to them.
First you need to relax and get away from those who demand the vortex to take effect "now!" (Or the dam construction work going on)
Second get comfortable. Sit on the ground, recline against a rock, just relax.
Third, just listen to the wind as it drifts through the brush. Feel the warmth of the ground/rocks. Take easy, calm breaths. It helps to close your eyes during this time to attune your senses to the world around you.
The vortexes are more about the natural beauty of the place and the calm attitude you bring.
I'd also recommend inner tubbing the creek from upper sedona to cornville. Same feeling, but you have the cool river/creek to enjoy and chill your drinks.
