For the record: I live next door to a family of Navajo Indians and; suffice to say, the father at least is rather prejudiced against illegal immigrants from Mexico.

Pardon me if I stick my nose in an Arizona thread, but for those of you researching where to live online - please consider New Mexico also.
We had moved to another state where we were treated badly (not Arizona, though), and researched practically the whole country online. We didn't like being "outsiders" and were looking for a new state to call home. We didn't like people telling us to "go home."
We decided on New Mexico, and are amazed every day how friendly and welcoming the people are! Housing prices are quite reasonable, too!
Nice weather, too.
Many, many people here are from other states and it doesn't seem to present a problem to anyone.
Arizona seems like a great place to live, but I am puzzled by the attitude against people moving there....
...come visit the New Mexico boards, too. You may find what you are looking for.

tbird,
I would not determine my relocation on the single opinion of an ignorant person especially if you feel God leading you in a direction. Read some of the other posts and keep it in balance, there is some fact and some opinion here on these posts. Keep it in perspective and pray.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought God created the world and the fullness there of and not once have I read that one should not move to another place because the locals don't want you there. I believe Arizona is a beautiful state but now I don't think this is the place for us. We are from a southern suburb of Chicago and Arizona sounds like a walk in the park compared to what's going on here. Now I'm not so sure that we would be welcome there.

Last people on earth I'd ever listen to are the negative posters! They have their own particular axe to grind. Don't let them rob you of YOUR happiness.
Everyone is welcome to come and see Arizona for themselves. Try it on for size, and then if its not for you, then thanks for coming. Come one, come all!

I thank you for an honest opinion
I have lived all my life in San Diego and am nearing retirement. SD has changed so much over the years that my husband and I would like to pick up and move elswhere. I don't like it at all when people come from other places and refuse to assimalate to thier new location and try to keep everything like it was in thier homeland. I have been fortunate to travel to Europe and often heard Americans complaining that "this is not how we do it back home." Well, if you don't want to experience new things than you should stay put. I work at a community college where we offer English classes free to immigrants and so many come attired in thier native dress from Africa or India or any number of other places. They speak and eat and everything else like they are still in their native countries. My point is that no matter where you live, try to accept your new surroundings and assimilate. Don't try and force it to be just like the place you left behind and then complain when it isn't.
Now, that said, wher can we move to as young retiries (from California) where we will be accepted and welcomed. I promise to do as the natives do and not to complaine if things are not the same as "back home".

Well, you could move to Kingman and not worry being accepted and welcome. That's because half the town are from there anyway. There and SoCal in general. We're the outsiders here being from northern CA.
Kingman's great if you want a small town. If you feel like you need mega-urban-sprawl and bad air, then the Phoenix area might be more your cup of tee. Personally, we're real happy to be away from the urban rat race.

Perhaps you mean God, Guns and Gays------------there is a vibrant Gay community here in central Phx.

In many regards; Arizona (particularly Mohave County, Prescott and the Phx area, not so much Tucson) is like SoCal of 40 years ago judging by what many old timers have told me.
I too left the Los Angeles area and wound up here 20 years ago. Hindsight being 20/20: it was an excellent decision.
