Have never heard of any such harassment stories or harsh treatment from the reservation police. Have been stopped several times on the reservation. Once at 2:00 am in the morning after leaving a powwow in Tuba City. Traveling on a "short cut" dirt road back to the main highway in an old VW bus the local rez police were watching for alcohol etc. They asked if there was alcohol or guns in the vehicle and I said "no sir". The police said they had a report of a van like mine robbing a local store. I responded by asking really, just like this van...imagine that! However we had proof that we had been at the powwow. They apologized and said have a safe trip. The reservation is not like any other state, it is governed by local police and reservation police and Feds. Always be respectful of their laws and of them and you should be fine. Looking for, or hunting for, anything on their land is not a good idea. If some one has been drinking or has alcohol with them, or guns, do not expect them to be courteous.

I agree with that, having visited reservations in Arizona and other states many times. Definitely obey the speed limits, in particular.

If you have to drive through a reservation, stay on the official state highways that run through the reservations. If you decide to take a side road, you can be stopped and your car can be impounded, since you do not have permission to travel on reservation roads (other than official state highways).

Here in the Phx area we have the Salt River Indian Community smack dab by Scottsdale (in fact; looking up a 'Rez' street address will return the city name of 'Scottsdale' as well); the Rez cops have 'mutual aid' agreements with the first city as well as Mesa--------read that a Salt River cop can pull you over in the above two cities and vice versa. The Mohave Rez S of Bullhead City------------the PD there is 'famous' for poaching trained Mohave County sheriff deputies for their agency. ![]() |

Stevie, you're trying to jerk my chain, aren't ya. The local indians shoot at the cops if they cross onto the reservation. It is reported in the local papers all too often. The stupid perp the cops were chasing usually gets caught not long after because he just has to leave the rez to drink in town or even just to grocery shop. They only welcome tour buses full of people frothing at the bit to waste their money gambling in the casinos built with U.S. Government supplied monies. I have no love for the local tribe. If the San Jacinto earthquake fault opened up and swallowed them all, I would say "GOOD RIDDANCE TO BAD RUBBISH"! |

I have serious trouble believing this. Can you provide a link to even one story about Indian tribal cops shooting at non-tribal cops? Should be easy since it's reported in the local papers so often. Right?
