Well, slm, since nobody has responded to your inquiry yet, I'll give it a shot. Parker is a small town (I'm guessing less than 5,000 pop) located about the center of the state (no/so) on the west edge along the Colorado River. (about 1/2 way between Quartzite/I-10 and Lake Havasu City/I-40) It has a rural feeling and I think there's an Indian Reservation to the south of it along the river where you'll find alot of agriculture. It sits right next to the Colorado River, so if you like boating you'll enjoy that. It didn't seem like there was much to do otherwise and not many stores/restaurants, although we did eat at a GREAT Mexican restaurant when we stopped through there. The town struck me as very clean and rurual, although here in AZ that probably won't last long. You'll have really hot summers there (105-110+) and mild winters. Hope this info helps. Perhaps someone that's more familiar with that area will give you some better insight.

Gretchen B:

Thanks for sharing about Parker. I haven't been there in a few years, so I'm not sure what it's like today. You described it really well. It's definitely a haven for "snow-birds," that's for sure.

Lately, I've avoided going back to visit a lot of cities in AZ because I'm afraid that I will break down in tears when I see all of the new development and changes. Does anyone else ever feel this way?

We haven't been to Prescott or Payson for a few years, due to the fast-paced development.

We live in Bullhead City, Arizona and we're ready to "escape" soon due to all of the heavy traffic, and non-stop development today. Thanks, BHC/Claire

hello,
I also live in Bullhead City. I have been through Parker a couple of times. I know that it is almost as hot as Bullhead City, there is not much to the town but a couple of small restaurants and convenient stores (maybe a grocery store??) and is about 40 miles south of Lake Havasu. It is a "snowbird" town, on the Colorado River Indain Reservation and does also have a couple of rv parks there.
Parker is also about 40 Miles north of Quartzsite, Arizona which is always having gem shows and other tourist attractions. You can visit the websites below for more information on both places.
Good luck on your move!

Hi there! we have a weekend place in parker. It is very small. They have 2 grocery stores, a couple of little beach shops, a pharmacy, hardware store, and some restaurants. Oh and a newer casino/hotel with arcade and movie theaters. Not much, except the river, if you are into fishing, boating ,ect. it's great, like I said we have a weekend place there and we live in Kingman, AZ.(about 2 hrs away) Also, about 45 minutes from parker is Lake Havasu city. Which has more to do and a lake(more water) it's kind of a fun place. Hopefully you are up for the summers(very hot)--but a dry heat (as we say inAZ)ha ha. Good luck.

I will tell you to NEVER speed in Parker... My brother lived there for years and all the waterfront property is being sold for those big beautiful homes now. But the one thing you must remember is to not even go a couple of miles over the speed limit or you will get a ticket!!!! I was one of the fortunate ones who didn't but everyone that I know that lives there or has passed through going over the 25 they allow...has left with a speeding ticket!

oh and don't be fooled... it does get hot and sticky there. The heat isn't all that dry!!!!
