Actually the saying about the prison neighbors was a quote from my realtor when I was looking for a home in the valley when I came here some time ago. And what is meant is not that there are prisons in the area, but that people living there might have been in one or might soon be in one.

However, nobody can deny that violent crime is much more common in the Western part of the valley than in the Eastern. There definitely are some areas where a big part of the population does have prison experience, but I agree, there are similar areas also elsewhere.
That would be called "steering" by your real estate agent. Big no-no in the business (could have cost your agent big $$$, too).

Thanks for your apology, but your "LOL" doesn't give me the impression you really mean it. Your comments are not laughable; they are false and rude.

Also, crime is NOT more common in the west vs east valley. Did your bad realtor tell you that too?

Many east siders have no clue about the west side. They are 10, 20 years behind in their knowledge and that includes the real estate people who work there. Of course realtors have motives for bad-mouthing whatever part of town they don't cover. It doesn't matter really, the east is going to decline as the west booms just based on historical realities and the fact that anything remotely convenient in the east has already been developed while the west is an unpainted canvas. New is in, old is out here and always has been. The brighter future is the west side.

Can I assume that your realtor worked mainly in the east valley?
We talked to many realtors over a 2 year period before moving here to the west side. We wanted to be where the "growth" was heading and we are very happy to have landed here. All but a few suggested we go west. There is nothing seedy about north Peoria and I have not (that I am aware of) had any ex-convicts as neighbors.
I might add that your realtor sounds a little moronic or out of touch, but as you said, this was some time ago and things do change.

Thank you Gila Monster for you reply. That really helps to know that AZ is not just a desert and that you do have nature diversity around you. Interestingly enough someone suggested Scottsdale to my husband today, so we will be looking into Scottsdale. It sounds like its an 8 hour drive to Vegas and about a 4 hour drive to San Diego. How far away would it be from the Grand Canoyon? You mentioned the mountains, how far of a drive is that?
What would be the major airport?
We originally came from a different country, so we constantly fly places, so major airport with direct flights to major cities in the world would be a big plus.

Also, it is interesting to see that west siders and eassiders fight everywhere,in Cleveland where we live east siders and west siders are very opinionated about each side. we live on the east side here, so i suppose we'll fit right in haha

Oh and I meant to add that it helps so much to know the real estate prices. whatever house we looked up had a nice pool and looked beautiful inside, it was only in the 300 neighboorhood. It must not have been a nicer area, since you are saying that the prices used to be in the 500K and we might find a house for 350K in Scootsdale.

There are a few east siders that start the "fights" and seem to enjoy writing arrogant and false statements.
