My husband and I are thinking about buying a house in Bullhead City and renting it out until we can eventually retire there 6 months out of the year. Is the rental market strong for a nice three bedroom home? What can you tell us about the area in general? We like the sun and the water. This town seems to be growing quickly.

You should do a search of this forum. There are lots of problems and complaints with BHC; some do like it, though.

I lived in BHC from Feb 2005 till Aug 2006.
This I will say: 'what you see is what you get'--------there is no pretense about the people in Bullhead. The good: Decent winters The Colorado River Casinos (if one gambles) in both Laughlin and the Ft Mohave Indian Rez Lots of things for the 'Jeep' offroading crowd to do Reasonable classic car scene Improving medical care Inexpensive housing/land Smoking in public places banned almost everywhere under Az state law (I am a non smoker so to me that is a good thing) Good law enforcement: the California Highway Patrol, San Bernardino (Ca) Sheriff's Dep't, Ft Mohave Rez cops, Las Vegas Metro Police, Nevada Highway Patrol along with our assorted Arizona police agencies all have cross jurisdictional authority in the Tri State area (Arizona, California, Nevada). The bad: Very hot summers Poor amenities as in shopping factoring in the population size (although things are improving) Low wages Meth problem which the police are trying to control (far fewer Meth labs compared to even 3 years ago) Lack of culture by even Prescott standards Pro boozing mentality although Az's strict DUI laws are putting a stop to that Again: there is little or no pretense about BHC........its 'vibe' is brutally honest |

The casinos also provide entertainment and dining. Consider Ft Mojave and Mohave Valley in addition to Bullhead for great real estate deals. The shopping has really improved, the new mall is open! BHC is only an hour and a half away from Vegas.

Thanks for all your comments. Do you happen to know about the rental market in BHC and Ft. Mohave? We were also thinking about Ft. Mohave. Is there a big difference between BHC and Ft. Mohave? In addition, is the Colorado River good for water skiing and boating in both towns?

Well, having lived in both Bullhead and Fort Mohave, I'd choose Fort Mohave. It is prettier and there are many beautiful homes. Yes, some areas are nice in Bullhead, and there's pretty homes, too, but I think Ft. Mohave is a bit nicer, well, okay, alot nicer! There's quite a few housing tracks in Fort Mohave. My sis lived in those homes in Cimmaron Lake. Very lovely homes! It's really Mohave Valley, but it's a nice area. Her home was just lovely! Now, in Bullhead, up on the Parkway, it's very nice! Nice homes and nice schools! And still close to the stores and doctors. Back to Fort Mohave, there's some houses being built off of Camp Mohave road. Those also look nice and you're close to Safeway, Smith's, McDonald's, Burger King, doctors, hair salons, etc. I know I've left out some stuff, really, my mom lives over there! I guess I should visit more often, eh?

Steve Brasher has all the good answers to great places in Bullhead and Ft. Mohave. Here's what I snatched from one of his posts! In Ft.Mohave there's El Camino Village, Arroya Vista Estates, and in the Parkway area, there's Sunridge Estates, Talon Point, Desert Foothills, and Laredo Village. And the Parkway is very pretty! But, all the places Steve's mentioned are nice!
