I have not looked at Montrose, but will take a peek- thanks for the tip!

In general though, Colorado wouldn’t be my first choice as I’m concerned it is a very purple state on its way to turning blue. Any thoughts on that?

p.s. For the record, I don’t take issue with anyone’s personal politics. I just don’t want to live in a city/state that is run by leftist leadership/representatives as I do not like the effects of their policies.
You are also describing AZ.

Yes I am a little concerned about Arizona too in that regard, but it’s an improvement from Oregon and I like that Show Low and Pinetop seem pretty solidly conservative. Still doing my research though, I have a few years or so before we make any changes so by then who knows, Arizona may be off the table too!

Wyoming or Idaho. They are bright crimson, and in no danger of turning lavender, periwinkle, or any similar in wavelength.

Western South Dakota and western Nebraska are bright red areas. Has better scenery than the eastern part of both states.

The western slope is conservative. Landscape is mainly valleys and along the edge of the Rockies. If you're an outdoor enthusiast, everything is close by such as mountain biking, camping, skiing. It's a paradise. Also check out the towns of Delta and Orchard City.

I have definitely looked into both but I just haven’t found an area that meets my wants/needs. There either aren’t enough sunny days, or enough pine/forest landscape, or they are too populated or expensive. I know, I’m totally picky and possibly just plain unrealistic!

Maybe I’m not looking in the right towns, or my budget isn’t high enough, but I haven’t seen a place with the pine forest/mountain landscape that I want. Any suggestions?

Thank you. I’m just not loving the valley landscape I'm seeing in those areas. Living among the pines is probably my biggest want.

If you look into the towns of Lead and Deadwood South Dakota, they are in forested areas.

Well yes, there's the whole bit about forests requiring moisture

You could always plant your own forest. We live in Gilbert in an old pecan grove. From pictures I doubt many would guess it is a residential area in metro Phoenix. Pines grow very well here. One of our neighbors has a few in their front yard, and there are parts of Tempe with some now very large pines. You just need some irrigation water and some time. It won't be cheap, but you can have your pines and plenty of sunny days.
