This is the first time in awhile that I have checked in, and I just saw your response. First, thank you for your welcome! Yes, we have moved to Yuma, and after almost ten months, I have come to really like it. In fact, I flew my parents home just a few days ago after spending a month with my husband and I, and now they are considering relocating here too...lol.
In my opinion, every city will have it's own pluses and minuses, and it is ultimately up to each individual. We are getting ready to experience our second summer here, and it should be a lot of fun. We have all made friends, work associates, church, etc., and are already planning Memorial and Fourth of July bar-b-ques. In fact, my neighbor and i are trying to plan a block party...lol. Again, it is all about how much you put into it. That determines what you get out of it. But I do miss hockey......at least the playoffs are being televised now...lol....RWF1
Hey REDWING,

How have you been? I haven't seen you here in forever! I am happy you are liking Yuma!! How is the nursing school going?

Hiya Sfw1979!
School is going great, and everyone has settled into their own groove..lol. Last summer was quiet, now the phone never stops ringing! It got to the point that my husband asked our daughters "..didn't you just see these kids at school? You have only been home 10 minutes and the phone has rung 3 times!".....lol. He is not dealing well with the whole "teenage daughter" thing..hehe.
I have come to really, really like Yuma. This past winter was wonderful! My parents liked it so much, they plan on relocated in about a year.
How are you guys doing? Are you still planning on moving back???? I haven't had a chance to post too much, but I remember you saying that you were trying or thinking about it. So, how is the great Northeast?...RWF1

This winter just about killed us! It was a pretty bad one! But at least spring is now here. We hope to be able to move back to Yuma but it wouldn't be for another year or so and deopends on my husbands command etc...but we are def hoping for it.
Sounds like you have great neighbors! And I am glad your kids are so adjsuted there! Are you finding school hard?

school is definately a challange. Sometimes i ask myself "what the heck was I thinking???? Maybe I am too old to do this "student/mom" thing..lol. But I know that the payoff will be worth it. The kids have adjusted much better than I had hoped. And thru them, I have made some great friends of their friends parents. One of the moms that I have met used to be a Staff Sergent in the Army, and listening to her stories over coffee, and having her answer my never ending questions is a lot of fun..lol. Amazing woman. She is on medical at the moment due to the Anthrax vacination that she was given...yikes! So, if you all move back here, warn your hubby that I will have a million and one questions.....lol. Military life facinates me....what can I say?

As to the winter that you all experienced......so not missing that..lol. My parents said that they had roughly 86 inches of snow this winter.....yep, I am happy living in the desert.
We just moved into a new house, and I swear, it was easier to move cross country than three streets over....lol. However, this new house is beautiful. And we finally sold our house in MI....whew! We lucked out there...RWF1

Default Yuma is different

I moved to Yuma from South Central Pa in June of 07. Things are very different here, but not unlike other cities. You will find people that want to work and others that don't. I find the pace here very slow. People are resistant to change. Most of the people are very polite. The traffic is nonexsistant in comparison to 795 or 695 in Baltimore. My husband has a great job and we live in a multi-zoned development, that means there are stick built houses, trailers and RV,s. The neighborhood is very empty in the summer. Snowbirds leave and we have the place to ourselves. It's hot....dont' be fooled by the dry heat bit....In the summer, some days you go outside it's like walking into a furnace. We travel from air conditioned house to air conditioned car to air conditioned store. Not unlike the east coast.

I love going to Mexico and San Deigo. I have lived on the east coast my whole life and I can't wait to explore the west coast.

Default Moving to Yuma

I am moving to Yuma within the next month. I am moving to somewhere that it is warm in the winter. I am tired of Colorado winters. I have a job when I get there. I will bring down my travel trailer and possibly look for a house after I get there. What I want to know is what kind or night life is in Yuma for some one in their 50's? What kind of recreation is there also?

All I have to say is..Yuma has the highest unemployment rate of any city in the U.S. right now- 23%!!! I heard it on the news last week here in Yuma. It is a terrible job market unless you want to work for minimum wage or are a nurse or teacher looking for work. I'm getting out now!! Phoenix is where the jobs are. There is nothing to do here compared to other parts of Arizona and it is the ugliest city in Arizona in my opionion. That's why once you move to Arizona you'll soon hear everyone else that doesn't live in Yuma refer to it as "the armpit of Arizona." Believe me, it is! Don't make the same mistake I did of relocating here. There are so many other places in Arizona that are much more beautiful with similar climate and more things to do.

I left Yuma in June and I can't tell you how happy I am to be gone. It will hold a special place in my heart only because my son was born there, but if anyone ever asks me if Yuma is a good place to live, I'll tell them NO.
