i agree with cassandra, it is not a nice place to live, i have been here far too long and cant wait to get out. there is no nightlife here none . this place is so boring, unless you like drinking in run down bars. the heat is unbearable, most people will put up what they call sun drapes or curtains in the summer to keep out the heat, now i dont know about you but i hate living where i have to shut myself in all the time cant open my windows too hot, cant open my curtains, cant walk outside too hot, and it lasts for months not just days, i dont like just running from my air conditioned car to my air conditioned store to my air conditioned house, what kind of life is that? i want to open my windows i want to look outside and i want to go outside winter and summer and yes when it snows i go outside. just wrap up, you can always get warm but you cant get cool. besides the a/c bill is out of control, i leave my a/c on 80 during the day and 77 at night. and dry heat? no not in july and august the humidity is horrible. this year was really bad. when its 110 with 55percent humidity omg. still in the hundreds in october and then when the weather gets nice here comes the snowbirds...

hey! So in the month of July2008 I moved here in the foothills of yuma from San Diego, my gf and I bought a 4br/pool house. It does get pretty hot here. It is true jobs dont pay well here at all, I went from making 45k to .... 25k doing more work? Im still young~. I have noticed also even jobs here that pay very very low still want a degree (4 yr) and that really confuses me ?

Overall moving here from San Diego to yuma I am happy with, people are more friendly here and the local bars are nice---drinks are much cheaper then san diego haha.

In the end, if anyone do not like it here I am sure there is room in other states for you so get out =)

Don't hate the 928!

I cannot stand it when I hear my friends (who also attend school in another city) say that every where they go, People dis Yuma. And it infuriates me when i hear it myself... people saying "yea i've driven threw Yuma ... it sucks!" or even you others who have lived here.

I Love Yuma! Born and Raised. I attend college else where, have traveled many places and have family all over & still love this place. Yuma is 3 hrs from SD, 3 hrs from PHX, 20 minutes from Glamis/dunes. and right next to Mexico.

Haters: Suck it!

This town is B.A.
end of story.

yeah well unfortunately its not all roses here in yuma as you all think with the unemployment rate of 19% and with the stores that have closed, so no not everyone loves it here but with the current economic situation cant really go anywhere else at the moment some of us are stuck here for now. the college here sucks real bad!

I don't know about the college, but I wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy to come to Yuma to be a teacher. Teachers are treated horribly here unless you are lucky enough to work at a private school. I was just told that my contract would not be renewed. I loved the kids I worked with. My principal based it on one evaluation which was given after spring break. I never saw my first evaluation. I wasn't given any warnings at all. As a matter of fact, one of my principals even told me that I was doing a good job. Then they turn around and don't renew my contract. This is the thanks I get for working without complaining when they forced me to stay after hours while I was having an asthma attack.

Jaada, I thought the unemployment rate was like 24%. They are predicting it will go to 30% before this depression is over.

You mean AWC, right? I was thinking about applying for a job there actually. Maybe not now? In what way(s) does it suck?

If you need a job and like Yuma, it doesn't hurt to apply. AWC couldn't be any worse than the school districts here. I would wait tables or flip burgers before I would ever come to Yuma to teach at one of the school districts. I have now found out that the school I work for is taking away my health insurance and not giving me Cobra papers until after my health insurance expires. I have asthma and will likely die, end up in the ER, or in the hospital as a result. I am working like crazy at trying to find new health insurance.

You're still in Yuma? Your 1st post on this thread was dated 1/6/2007, the economy was fine in 2007.
