Mostly mobil homes?
Do you see any mobil homes in the college park/ tamarack area?
what about mesa del sol?or the terraces?the bluffs?villa chaparral?rancho sereno?etc?
sure there areas with mobil homes, but tell me,where do you live?by yuma high or what?there is better places you know?
I came from san diego 2 years ago,and I know one thing.Im never moving back.

What world are you living in MAB - Yuma sucks thats it -You are retired and you don't have to commute to work everyday and you don't have to be afraid for your life because you know there is a snowbird driving out there. Please - I don't know how long you have lived here MAB but this town has grown tremondously in the last three years we have been here and still nothing has changed for the better!!! So stroll out of your trailer and have a real hard look around at this town.

Disappoinment doesn't come close to how bad this place is and why we are moving out this May. and if you have noticed there is little or no grass here and never will because of the weather here. It is so damn hot and we moved here because of College and that was a HUGE mistake, so if your going to go then go now because it has being known that people can get STUCK here!!! So go while the getting is good and never turn around. Run don't walk -well I guess you get my point. Well where are you going to move to?

Is Yuma my Shangri-La?
I've been thinking about moving to Yuma for years now. I live in the Bronx and I HATE it here. It's too cold for 9 months, too humid for 3 months and too liberal all year round.
I don't care if there's no nightlife: I don't go club hopping. I don't care if there're no bars: I don't drink. I don't care if there are no movie houses, play houses, amusement parks or sports arenas: I don't go to ANY of those places. A museum would be nice, though.
What I want is a small town with lots of sun, lots of heat and no humidity. I don't want to see garbage in the street, graffitti on the wall, drug dealers on the corner or Bush bashers next door. I want a joib that'll let me pay the bills so I can stay there.
ALL I WANT IS SUN, HEAT, QUIET, REPUBLICANS AND A JOB!
Please let me know if this is asking too much of Yuma?

What can one miss about CT?
Wow, as a former resident of CT, I honestly must ask, what do you miss about the place? Granted, it is really close to both Boston and NYC, but CT in itself? I hate that state. It is has long, cold winters, prices are high, taxes are high, its major cities are crime ridden....yuck.
I moved to Portland, OR....which is much like if you put CT in a blender with CA. I like it way better than CT, but the winters still get me down. Now I am trying to find a nice spot in the sun somewhere. If anyone knows of a great sunny city, let me know!

"What I want is a small town with lots of sun, lots of heat and no humidity"
This would pretty much be Yuma. But it's not so much a small town, it's the
2nd fastest growing city in the US. In the winter the population at least triples with all the snowbirds. BUT...it's still really small compared to where are you from..the Bronx? Well, yes then it would be really small still! And if lots of sun and heat are all you need then YUMA is the place for that! It's sunny 99.9 percent of the year!
As far as the grafitti on the street, drug dealers and trash on the street that depends on where in Yuma you live, but for the most part I think you'll find it's pretty clean. I'm not to sure about museums, but you mifht also enjoy going to Algodones, Mexico here and there. It's great to go for some lunch and shop around.
Arizona as a whole is more conservative then NY so although poeple in YUMA aren't screaming I love Bush, they usualy arn't bashing him either. But I think because your coming from such a liberal area this would seem really conservative for you.
Good luck on your move! A great webiste for homes for sale and/or rentals is

A lot of Arizona cities are suuny all year long but can you tolerate the extreme heat in the summer? If so, then AZ is the place for you! Yuma, Arizona is actually 99.9 percent sunny per year!!

Where do the snowbirds come from?

Snowbirds come from all over the United States and Canada, mostly the Northern United States and Canada as it gets so much colder there.

"there is little or no grass here and never will because of the weather here. It is so damn hot"
Repeat after me...Arizona is a desert.
Arizona is a DESERT.
ARIZONA IS A DESERT!!
(southern & central Arizona at least).
We need less grass out here, not more. We need people to quit sucking up our precious water to feed their lawns so that they can pretend they are still living in Seattle. Desert gardens need little maintenance and look much cooler anyway!

Haidawarrior,WTF is your problem?
Im not retired,Im a 32 Y/O Mexican-american who holds a pretty decent blue collar job and get paid pretty good money.
When I say pretty good money Im talking 60K.
Sure, thats not a huge amount, but it is enough to own 3 vehicles,2 newer 1 older.Pay for a 4 bedroom house in a great nehiborhood.Own a couple of Quads and im planning on buying a boat soon.
I have a wife and a 7 y/O daughter a mother who moved to Yuma in July 2006 and a 35 Y/O brother who is moving here next month.
Get you head out of your @$# and quit generalizing people.
Yuma is not the 8th wonder of the world, but like I said.Ill take it over any overpopulated city with congested freeways.
BTW,I live 4 minutes away from my place of work, and my daughters school is 2 minutes away.
So,if you hate Yuma,I say leave and dont let the door hit you in the @#$ on your way out.
