I am considering moving to Yuma from Baltimore due to my husband being offered a job in Yuma. I am wondering if anybody has any suggestions as to where in yuma would be a NICE place to live...I am coming from an upper middle class neighborhood with nice neighbors and a large home and would like the same... am I being realistic? are the people nice? is there any shopping? what is there to do besides outdoor activities?

plenty of nice places in Yuma to live
I would suggest The Terraces, Tillman, Cresta Gila, Bluffs to name a few. The shopping is trying to get better but the nice thing is you have a reason to visit San Diego. It is only 2 1/2 hours away. It makes for a nice getaway weekend.

rancho sereno and mesa del sol are nice too.
I do like the terraces, especially the view.
Whats the name of that nehiborhood close to the scorpions baseball field that borders the gold club?
Its really nice there.
Shopping is decent,but like said.
Its better in San Diego or Phoenix. Both 2 1/2 hours away.

And the summers are barely hotter than Baltimore.......higher temps but much lower humidity-------and, of course, NO winters by Maryland standards either.

I just want to say to anyone thinking of moving here to Yuma to think long and hard about it. My wife and I moved here just over a year ago from South Dakota because she got a great paying job. We now joke EVERY SINGLE day about when we can move away from here. We both really, really do not like it. Way to many negative aspects when compared to the positives as other posters have stated. Just do your homework before moving all the way down here.

Wow. I was hoping to find a wonderful warm place to spend winters after I retire in 2010. People on this forum are so negative about snowbirds. I guess they have their reasons, but it isn't clear what they are. I think I'll cross Yuma off the list because of the reports of pesticides. I don't even buy or eat foods that have been treated with pesticides, I certainly don't want to breath air that's filled with it.

Unfortunately; you are correct about Yuma in that regard; the air is sketchy at best.

He-he, I haven't noticed much negativity about snowbirds... I personally have no problem with them, other than in traffic. That's one reason coming to mind.

I'm from The Bronx, are you from Yuma?
When it goes below 80 deg F, I start getting cold. When it hits the 60s, I start thinking about long johns.
I have to tell you that the weather here in The Bronx SUCKS. It's way too cold for nine months out of the year. I want it hot, hot, HOT all the time. In didn't use my air conditioner this year, only my fan. Why? Because, when the air conditioner is on, I get as depressed as when it's cold out. Yep, I have SAD (seasonal affective disorder) and can tell you EXACTLY what chronic depression is all about.
So, it seems to me that all the negativity I read about Yuma is colored by people's dislike of the heat. Is that it?
And there's this:
1)If Yuma's so bad, then why has its population exploded?
2)Bad drivers? Come to downtown New York and I'll show you bad drivers.
3)The people are rude? Try riding the New York subway during rush hour.
4)High crime? You've got to be kidding me.
5)Gang activity? There's a reason why New York has Five Families and Yuma has none.
6)If there's "nothing to do," doesn't that mean Yuma's ripe for entrepreneurial development? So, what are you waiting for? They don't let you pee in your own toilet in New York without a license or permit.
7)I'm wondering if all the complainants are from small idyllic towns. Are you?
So, what gives? Is Yuma really THAT bad?
