My mother was born in Douglas - and my grandparents are buried there - my husband and I just came back from a trip there - I fell in love with the area - but wonder if anyone knows more about the area - any information will do!

Douglas has many problems that come from economic depression, crime and illegal immigration. Too bad, because it is a nice climate and there are some very nice (and cheap!) historic homes there. Put the word "Douglas" in the search function and you will find what others have said about Douglas

I went to Cochise College there 1989-1991 and find it SO very different now when I go back to visit. Lots of people moved out, lots of people from Mexico moved in. Lots of places seem to have shut down (movie theatre, restaurants & other eateries) but then again the generic stores seem to have popped up. I do love the beautiful historic homes and the small town atmosphere. Go have some lunch at the historic Gadsden Hotel, it's beautiful, although some of the rooms are in dire need of restoration!
All in all, it depends on what stage of life you're in, or whether you're looking to move, visit, second home, etc. BTW, ditto for the previous poster re: economic depression, illegals, drugs, etc. |

I know the homes were cheap and that is a big draw. The people I spoke to in Douglas, when I visited seemed to like it there. We did go across the border to check it out and on our way out thru the border, one of the border guards did tell us that there is a big drug problem in Agua Pierta (my spelling of that my be wrong) but he said Douglas wasn't bad and that he even lived in Douglas. I just found the area to be very quite and beautiful, that's what I loved about it. Thanks again glow |

I now live in Southern California and there are gangs, drugs and illegals here too. How different is that? Maybe I just don't understand that... would someone explain? How are illegals and drugs different in Douglas than in So. California? I work in the office of a company that has a factory - I would say about 90% of our factory workers are probably illegal. They are wonderful, kind, honest and hardworking people. Douglas seems to me a small "country" type of town, not much to do and very quite- and the views were beautiful. I liked that. Thanks so much for your input, it helps me greatly. |

I grew up in Douglas, Arizona and my grandparents still reside there. I, personally love it there. If my husband could find decent employment there we would consider living there (and if it had worthwhile education for our children). I like the "small town" mentality and I think the people who live there are so kind and they are the salt of the earth if you ask my opinion. Yes, there are definately drug issues, but there are issues wherever you live. I have lived in the East Coast and there were problems there too. There is no part of the country where people are immune to problems. The weather, both summer and winter, is decent. Cochise College tends to bring a little bit of culture (although not a lot) into the small town. The food (if you like mexican is awesome and affordable. I really like the town, and again, you won't find nicer folks.
