You might want to do some homework...yes, there are plenty of houses as Phoenix as the second highest foreclosure rate in the US and more going down the tubes everyday. The job market here is TERRIBLE. There are only big two industries - home construction and tourism. Both industries have historically been heavily supported through illegal immigration and pay rates are VERY low. Arizona is highly populated by retirees - who do not care about education or employment. Do not come to AZ without plenty of saving to hold you until a job can be secured.

What do you consider plenty of savings?
Thanks

Nurses and doctors used to be in high demand, not totally sure if they are right now though.

You better seriously conduct research if you plan on moving from TX to AZ. Texas has the healthiest economy in the country right now. AZ definatly does not. AZ has the owrst education in the country. Phoenix and the state have the highest foreclosure rate in the country. The real estate market is in the toilet. Phoenix is the kidnapping capital of the world outside Mexico City. Chandler Gilbert and Mesa are the most 'boring' cities in the country, according to Forbes. AZ has a huge illegal immigrant problem. Car theft is a serious issue in and around Phoenix. And thousands upon thousands of jobs have been lost in AZ. The most jobs in AZ are low-paying service jobs that dont offer a paycheck or a future.
For heaven's sake, stay in Texas. AZ is an unhospitalble desert hell. There's too many people moving to AZ anyways, and it's ruining the desert and everything else. Please stay away.

Since when? I moved to AZ for years ago from MI, so listen to me. Obviously youve never been here, nor read the newspaper. Arizona's housing market is TERRIBLE. The state and the Phoenix area have almost the highest foreclosure rate in the country. Good paying jobs are also few and far between, as illgal immigration is the main factir. Most jobs in AZ are low-paying service jobs that dont offer a paycheck or a future. Phoenix is the kidnapping capital of the world outside Mexico City. Arizona does NOT deserve the hype it gets. Besides, Arizonans are sick of people coming here. Too many people coming here is ruining the desert. Please stay away. New Mexico may be a better option. Texas is the best place in the country right now. Why not go there? But please dont come to arizona! PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH. Arizona has changed for the worst.

My gosh, Arizona is almost the WORST place to be right now. Why not move to one of Texas's great cities--Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Ft. Worth, Austin, etc.? Texas is great. You would be going from probably the best state (economically) to almost the worst. You better seriously consider somewhere else or you could regret it.

I live in TX and I'm ready to get out of here (even though you're totally right about the economies of both states). Why not stay in TX? Because I'm sick of Texas pride and backwards-southern culture, I hate living so far from all my family (all in Intermountain west) and I miss mountains and having access to public lands. And no, I wouldn't move anywhere without first securing a job. Hope to see you soon krock1dk.

my advice, for what it is worth, is STAY IN TEXAS.
i lived in dallas from 1983 to 1986, when i moved to LA. i liked dallas, didn't love it, but for a single woman, it was nice and jobs were good in high tech.
i now live in tucson arizona, and literally, tucson is the kiss of death. WITHOUT A DOUBT th emost hideous place i have ever lived.
why ??
**** schools. my kid is graduating high school here in tucson and, while i managed to give her an excellent education, it was the most miserable experience of my entire life. i have an ivy league degree, and the schools here are jsu tthe worst i have EVER seen. anywhere at any point in time.
i am starting a business, and tucson is the most ANTI business place i have ever been. no support for anything and the most hideously educated people i've ever seen.
i worked at the UA doing a tech writing project. for a WHOPPING $15 per hour for very high skilled work. that's GOOD MONEY for tucson everyone said. hell, in LA 23 years ago, i was making $30/hour, as a single person. $15/hour is poverty wage if you have a family to support.
the quality of men here is AGAIN hideously bad. bad health, bad teeth, bad education, no class, no ambition. need i go on ??? most of them are alcoholics but they lie about it and you have to figure it out for yourself.
the people here are druggies or ghetto people or workig 3 jobs to survive. tucson has one of the highest suicide rates in the usa. what does THAT tell you ???
if you want to leave texas, consider boulder, colorado or saint george utah. i'ved lived in both, with a kid, and they are very family friendly places. saint george is lower class, blue collar, with an obviously mormon focus. boudler is upper income, high tech. but both are family friendly and quite nice to deal with.
whatever you do DO NOT MOVE TO TUCSON. trust me on this one.

I appreciate your honesty and I'm sorry you've had such a hard time. Do you think the conditions you describe would be similar around Mesa/Gilbert?
