I've lived in Colorado and felt great there when I was in the military, but I don't want to deal with the cold.

My question is how easy is to find good jobs there? I work in City government in Development Services and my husband works in IT. One thing Texas does have an abdundance of, besides mold spores..lol, is a good economy and lots of good paying jobs. We don't have any children, we've sold our house back in Oklahoma so the transition would be relatively easy. We are interested in the Green Valley area any response would be greatly appreciated!
In all honesty, Arizona is a LOUSY place to find a good-paying job that offers a paycheck and a future. Most jobs in AZ are low-paying service jobs that are economy sensitive: hospitality, tourism, and construction. Those activities have next to destroyed this state in its severe recession. Arizona now has the country's highest foreclosure rate, the biggest state budget defecit, etc etc etc. The state and numerous cities have big time cut back on employees. No end in sight.

I honestly think your best interests are elsewhere. Texas is boooming right now, in this bad economy, and is probably the only good place in the country right now. Besides, Arizonans are complaining that there's too many people moving here. And I agree. Please stay in texas.

And as far as allergies goes, thery are lots of plenty here. Allergy suffers here have problems due to the extreme dryness and desert wind. If you want to move to the southwest, may I suggest New Mexico? Its an excellent alternative. But please avoid arizona.

You've made essentially this same post on multiple threads. First, do you even still live here? In a January 2007 post, you told someone on one of the other state forums that you USED TO live in Phoenix. It gets hard to figure out who actually does live here.

And if you DO live here, and hate it so, why are you still here? Whether you are still here, or if you aren't but hated it while you were here, that doesn't mean others will have the same reaction. They may also not have the same reaction as the ones who absolutely love it here. There is a very large group of people in the middle who are generally satisfied with their life here. It's not for everyone, no place is.

The "kidnapping" that you and others love to rant about. The national and foreign media that love this "story" don't bother to mention that NO average law abiding citizen has been a victim of the kidnapping they are yapping about. If you are not involved in the illegal alien or drug trade, you aren't at risk. I do not know anyone who is thinking twice about a risk of being kidnapped here. The constant spreading of the "media manure" about kidnapping here is getting very old.

I appreciate your honesty and I'm sorry you've had such a hard time. Do you think the conditions you describe would be similar around Mesa/Gilbert?

to john 4355 ............

i personally would stay out of phoenix entirely. do NOT move to tucson under ANY circumstances. it is hell in tucson. the youngish working people i know in tucson (all natives by the way) are desperate to get out of here.

both prescott and flagstaff are wonderful, but it is impossible to support yourself there unless you bring in your own money ... are independantly wealthy or have a business that you can transfer there and immeiately make money.

arizona is a corrupt state like nevada, coupled with the mexican immigrant poulation polluting the quality of life and driving down wages. drugs and ghetto life are impossible to get away from.

to all the people who like it here, good luck withthe **** jobs and **** schools. other places have a quality of life that FAR exceed phoenix and tucson.

i reccommend family friendly communities like southern utah, denver/boulder,colorado and even california. with all california's current problems, it beats the atmosphere in arizona any day of the week.

good luck to you. i am on my way to LA for business, and probably the oregon coast to live.

Phoenix is definetely not the best place to be looking for employment right now. I have one associates and 1 bachelors degree and have nothing to show for it. Can't find a job anywhere and at the same time battling the horrible services of unemployment. I have 5 jobs right now and non of them have hours. One job was only able to give me 8 hours for this week. It is better than nothing but still is like being unemployed.

STOP!! Think real hard before you get on I-10 and head west. Green Valley is a nice area but a hot bed of political issues and the border battle. Jobs are not easy to find and this state is in real trouble. I transferred back out here a year ago from TX and wish I would never had done it. There is a flood of people here from CA screwing up the area and a huge influx of illegal aliens not to mention PHX is the kidnap capitol of the US. Be prepared for border patron check points in the middle of the highway also. For jobs check out jobbing.com or USAJOBS - The Federal Government's Official Jobs Site . I have the worst allergies of my life living out here. Good luck.

You have allergies and want to move to AZ? My allergies have acted up the most since I've moved here. Phoenix is not the best place for allergy sufferers. Ragweed and pollen is the biggest causes here as it blows in from the west. I think you should consider relocating elsewhere if allergies are an issue. Moving to AZ to escape allergies is like moving to Florida to escape mosquitos.

By all accounts and purposes, Arizona is a TERRIBLE place to find a job, unless you want a low-paying $7 an hour job in the hospitality, retail or restaurant industries. Most jobs in Arizona are small business or in the service industry, and you wont find much production of goods here. Very low incomes are the norm in Arizona, perhaps due to its status as being a right-to-work state. And the high cost of living combined with the low incomes makes it very difficult to purchase a home--at least in the PHX area. This makes the AZ way out of balance. Arizona also has an unemployment rate of 8.5%, lower than the nat'l average but as high as its been in a generation. There are many people I know who are college educated, who were laid off, and are having trouble finding a good-paying job out here. Trust me, the job market in Arizona is very scant. Texas would B much better.

Oh yes, and I forgot to mention that Arizona's economy will worsen due to its outragious budget deficit (second highest in the country).
