Default Question for Lake Havasu residents....

My family and I are set to move to LHC starting on July 21st. I'm wondering if anyone out there could fill me in on the internet options available out there? What providers are there and who has the best rates and service? So far, and I must say I haven't really looked into it much, I have only noticed some adds on t.v. by NPG and Cheetah high speed internet. I would also like any info on the different t.v. options now that I think about it. I will want to have HD cable and / or HD satellite with NFL package if possible. Thanks in advance for any responses.

For hi speed internet LHC is a really a two horse town - Frontier (phone company) with DSL and NPG cable. I have Frontier unlimited local and long distance and about 1M DSL for around 75 per month.

If you can, your best bet is to go with Dish or Direct TV. Only Direct TV has NFL Sunday Ticket.

If you have to go with cable, HD is limited and is pricey - but no contracts like satellite. Same with cable broadband which will get you 1-2M downloads. Here is the NPG link.

OK:

I am no huge fan of LHC due to the pro 'party animal' atmosphere.

That stated: if a person has a decent income (either investments and/or a good paying job)------one can do a lot worse than Havasu.

I used Citlink that is now Frontier for several years. I found the DSL to be ok but two to three years ago they really limited the number of e-mail recipients you could send to in an hour. Not the number of e-mails sent.. but the number of recipients. I forward several e-mails a day and after three or four emails I was cut off for an hour. I switched to NPG cable for internet. At the time they were unlimited e-mails. Now they limit you to 50 recipients to each e-mail but do not limit the number of e-mails sent per hour.

As others have stated, it's pretty much Frontier DSL or NPG Cable. There are a couple of wireless providers but the speeds are not that good. I use Directv and have had no issues with it. Good luck in your move.

Thanks to all for the info. I just finished moving our stuff to LHC yesterday, and am back in California to pick up some loose ends. Sunsoaker8, aside from the e-mail situation, did you find the DSL connection at Frontier to be fast enough? My wife and I are still trying to decide what to do for our T.V. phone and internet. We currently have basic cable from NPG in the house and that's it. We were considering switching over to the dish / dvr , unlimited nationwide phone and DSL wireless modem combo from Frontier for $126.00 a month. I've never had Dish or DSL before so if you could maybe let me know if it's suitable for someone who doesn't forward a bunch of emails. ...thanks in advance.

Do yourself a favor and use either DSL or high speed cable---------dialup makes a desert tortoise appear to be fast.

Why I say that is years ago there was much less data transfer over the Internet hence an honest 56K Modem was adequate. Not today.

Dan,
It's been over 2 years since I last used the DSL. My download speed would run between 980 and 1050. The upload speed wasn't great.. it would run between 100 and 110 on average. My NPG Cable internet runs around 2900 on the download and 475 to 500 on the upload. I had some e-mail issues with Frontier when I first got it but it was owned by Citlink and that's been several years ago. For the most part I didn't have to many issues with the DSL. Lately I've had several outages with NPG. A few months ago I went with their phone service as well. It works well when I don't have the outages. They usually don't last to long but it's starting to get old.

I've had satellite tv since the days of the big dish with C band in the early 80's. I have been using Directv for the last 15 years and really haven't had to many problems or issues with them. I've never had cable tv so I can't tell you how that is with NPG. I did see an add in the paper where they are running tv, internet and phone for $99.95 or pick two of the three for $69.95 for 12 months. It doesn't say how many channels you get with the tv though. If I can be of any further assistance feel free to ask. I hope you and your family enjoy living here.
