Default Anyone in the Colorado River area grow melons?

I read that AZ is one of the top melon producers in the US. Anyone here have any info about them? Our 10yo son saved seeds from our july 4th melon and wants to plant them. I know they grow fast in hot temps (from seed to fruit in 80 days) so, do we still have time to plant this year? We usually dont see temps below freezing til december...If at all.

We are also interested in Pumpkins, and if they grow as fast as melons we could plant them now too.

Thanks!

I think most of the melons in the Yuma area have been harvested by now. According to the Yuma Ag Council, melon planting is generally done in the spring or fall.

Melon seeds should be planted between Feb-May.
Pumpkin seeds can be planted anytime between Mar and Aug.
Try to get an early start for best results.
