Anybody Else Sad to See Channel 2 News End?
Anybody else from Northern AZ sad about the end of Channel 2 News? I know it was a little rinky-dink, but at least they carried news that pertained to Flagstaff, Prescott, and the rest of northern AZ. The Phoenix stations act like we don't exist up here . . . even when it comes to weather.
Speaking of weather, Lee Born always had a much more accurate forecast than the Weather Channel.
So I'm kind of bummed about no more Channel 2 News. I really liked that the top story of the day occasionally was about the latest controlled burns in the National Forest. And it didn't bother me at all that it wasn't about a child drowning, a drive-by shooting, or a serial killer on the loose. If there was a local tragedy it really was a BIG thing.
I'm actually going to miss critiquing the new anchor gal's makeup and getting a chuckle when the video showed one story while the anchor was reporting on something else.
Here's to you Channel 2 News - I'm gonna miss my northern Arizona news.

Lived in Flagstaff for about ten years, Gretchen, and I will ditto your commentary. Surely they could've done something about continuing the local TV News in some form or fashion.
Goodbye to a very unique presentation of News, Weather, and Sports up in the pines!

I'll miss it too. I have DTV at my cabin, but a set of rabbit ears to get Ch2 when it's on. How will I ever know the temperature at Leupp now? Seriously, it is a loss.

Sorry you're losing channel 2 news. We used to watch the local news on channel 2 when we had Sedona Cable. We lost channel 2 when we switched to Direct TV.

I get down to Flagtown every 3rd month or so to shop at Bookman's and Hastings. I preferred 2 over the Phoenix stations as they gave,IMHO, a good, informative view of the STATE, not just the valley. A rinky dink operation? Not! A quick note, they gave solid weather conditions and travel advisories for folks living in Kayenta, Chinle, even Bluff and Mexican Hat, Utah. Anyone making that trip from hwy's 89, 160 and 191 knows what I'm saying when you are going through there in winter. Just my 2 cents worth.

Actually getting truly local news via Channel 2 was the main reason we switched from satellite to cable. (I don't understand how these things work - how some channels are available only on cable vs satellite. )
I agree with Double H's view that Channel 2 always did a good job of in depth reporting.

I miss Brandon Klein...their roving reporter. I used to deal with him a lot when I was Media person here at the Sheriff's Office. He was a doll!

Seems odd that Flagstaff would lose their tv channel when they are getting so big and expensive. Not enough "locals" to support It? Too many second home owners that don't care about local things? They can now have their own ski resort but lost their local news...too bad. Was always the only way to get good local information.

My impression has been that if it had been locally owned that the news program would have remained. But since it's owned by the Phoenix station, I think it's just a simple way to cut back on expensives by simulcasting everything. That was a much easier way to go than actually promoting the local news program.
Just like radio, it makes much better business sense to simulcast to 1,000 different stations and carry a 3 minute Fox news update than to fund indepth local news coverage.
Guess I'm back to actually reading a newspaper for local news.

Got it. Good thing for the Daily Sun. It isn't owned by a Phoenix newspaper organization, is it?
