Oh yet but another Y2K7 bug for your computer and most people didn’t even think of it.
Federal law requires the time changeover for daylight saving time to being March 11th and most systems, pc, servers, etc. are set to change April 1st. These clocks could cause glitches for alot of systems. I just don’t understand why the daylight savings is needed? Of course here in Arizona we have plenty of sunshine but even before moving here years ago I could never understand why we wanted more daylight. They have said it was an energy savings reason, yet I fail to see what energy we save? Now the other thorn about daylight savings, why have we moved the on off dates? Did we all of a sudden get more sunlight earlier each year and did it hang around longer as well? Give me an old clock that works and leave the time alone. The nation doesn’t need to move forward and fallback just because we start having longer days. ![]() |

It won't really affect computers, because the time synchronization is handled by servers, which get their time from main servers such as Time.gov and US Naval time. Y2K was a problem with the software code itself. Windows will update your computer for daylight savings no matter when they schedule it to start or end. |

When they moved daylight saving ahead by an hour, yes there will be sunlight at 8pm ~ but I remember getting up in the morning and there wouldn’t be any sunlight – we turned the lights on “earlier” in the am and not the pm. It never helped.
Now that I’m in AZ we don’t want anymore “sunlight” then we’ve got. It’s nice to cool down in the evening. ![]() |

Not all of Arizona doesn't use Daylight Savings Time. Tuba City on the Indian Reservation does.

Navajo Nation is on DST. Parts are in NM, so the whole thing has the same time that way. I don't know if the Hopi rez is on DST or not.

Ok, my understanding is that daylight savings time was first initiated for the farmers. It gave them more time in the fields etc. Maybe it had a dual purpose, however, I would think the whole thing with the electricity and the lights would be way off balanced by the use of AIR CONDITIONING here in Arizona

I always thought daylight savings was backwards. Summer should be the standard time and winter should be the savings time. In the winter we should back up the clock another hour and then set it forward to normal in the summer. That way, it would stay light until 6 or 7 pm in the winter and in the summer. Who cares if it's light at 6 am. You're sleeping anyway. It's nicer if there is still sunlight to enjoy when you finish working.

Funny how many opinions on where and why. LOL
Farmers didn’t work in the fields by the clock on the wall, they were up in the morning doing chores in the barn then breakfast, and when the sun was up they’d be in the fields until they finished or until the end of the daylight whichever came first. [ BiggsHomes – “who cares if it’s light at 6 am. You’re sleeping anyway” ] Sorry but all my lift I was getting up at 4:30 or 5 am to get ready for the workday. If daylight savings is working to save energy I would really like to have an example of how it works because it doesn’t seem to apply well. There are more activities in the summer months when the day is longer and the government just wanted to move the clock to give you extra time in the evening hours. For those people who are up and about the house or their workday the lights go on before 6 am and anytime that that it is dark in the house or the job location. ![]() |
