Oh I'm sure I'm too late with this post and I haven't had an opportunity to check out the aspens in the mountains yet. But drives in the mountains north of Flagstaff should be great in the next couple of weeks.

The leaves are changing ion the high country around McNary, there is a peaceful/senic drive from Show Low , Lakeside/Pinetop , Mcnary , over to Eagar , down to Clifton. From there you can drive back to Phoenix easy enough.
