Plenty of states ignore the Federal Peaceable Journey Law. NJ does for sure. When passing through that occupied terrirory, I'd be extra sure to have it in the trunk and even have the container locked. Of course, I'd never ever consent to any police search and they can't open your trunk without strong probable cause or a warrant. As long as your trunk is totally separate from the rest of your car's interior, they'd need a warrant or to smell a decomposing body to open it against your will. Once you get to PA, you're back in free America and don't have to worry. I drove here from VA and my several CCW's had me covered in every state I passed through. So I just kept one sidearm in my door pocket. Since I was moving, my trunk was stuffed full of guns.

You need a CCW to carry concealed, but you can open carry with no permit.
Well, I didn't, but was going for dramatic effect.

And where do I do that? Do I go to the sheriff's dept. or something?

Np. They should be able to give you references for CCW classes, if not call up a couple local gun shops and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

I took mine at Arizona Sportsman (now Marksman II) over on West Prince Road.

This has everything you need.

ArizonaShooting.com • Index page (http://www.arizonashooting.com/forums/index.php - broken link)

CCW class is eight hours, runs around $40-$50, permit is $60 IIRC, and takes about a week or two to get after you mail in your paperwork.

Default carry in arizona

first of all... yes you do not have to register any gun in AZ.

second... open carry is the law.

if you have a gun with you in your car, it will have to be in holster on the front seat or wherever you want to put it.

if you have it on your person and sitting in the car it is considered concealed.

i put mine on the seat beside me even though i have a CCW.

it is an 8 hour class and a background check.
get your CCW as soon as you get here. it will save you alot of problems.

also get a copy of the traveler's guide to gun laws. great book for reference.

good luck ''

We have a houseload of guns (thanks to my husband). We both have the Concealed Carry Weapon Permit which we carry at all times. Check out www.azccw.com/
When we hike in the mountains he carries a pistol open visible because we live near the border where we often come across illegals crossing the border.
