I know you are right, but I want to act like I didn't hear it! LOL
I hate to break this to you: but you may be better off living in the Prescott area while still renting till you and your husband 'get your bearings'--------especially with the worsening economy.

Remember that there is nothing stopping you two from visiting Sedona once or twice a week. Too; especially old town Prescott around the courthouse ain't exactly bad either

How about in the Winter? Are the roads bad in Prescott?

The Hub was offered a job in Precott but as soon as a position come up in Cottonwood they will move him. Of course, he also could get stuck in Prescott for a long time.

We do have a Prius that gets about 45-48 mpg so it would be about 2.75 gallons a day.

Opinions please

Owch.....it would take you about an hour and a half to two hours.....the only thing is.....from prescott to Sedona the quickest way is around a mountain and your on a road with a massive drop off.....I hate driving on it in the summer I couldn't even imagine driving on it in the winter.......that would be a tough one......

Adventuregurl~ See we figured since here he works 12 hr shifts, 7 days a week and has for, for at least 3 yrs. and drives 1 hr each way. We thought that there, 10 hr shifts, 4 days a week, even with the drive, it would be less for him. AND as soon as there is a closer opening, they will transfer him. No??? You still wouldn't do it???

Arizona Bear~ NOOOOOO LOL can you see me on the ground kicking and screaming? NOOOO, I don't want to live in Prescott....I want to live in Sedona He's saying if he can't live in Sedona, he doesn't want to go We'll move to Florida instead. UGH!!!!

Lola~ that's the Jerome way. He'd be going 179 to 17 and then to Prescott. So I don't remember any cliffs there. Right? I mapquested it and it said 1 hr and 15 so we are figuring 1.5 hrs.

Ugh, now I am sad Looks like I have to go have another chat with the hub. I'll keep everyone posted.

I guess it depends on where in Sedona you are going to live...I usually allow at least 1hr and 15min to get there and it seems like a long haul. I would do the I 17 route too.

If he can handle that kind of drive then go for it, especially if he can possibly transfer closer soon. I hope he will be using the Prius!!!

IMHO, Sedona is much nicer. Will you be working?

Oh yes, he will be using the Prius and as soon as a hydrogen car is out, we'll be buying one I would love to buy a Smart car but I am not impressed with the gas mileage.

The house we were looking at is right by Los Abrigados. It is by the Y. But since he is working 12 hrs a day here and driving for 1 hr each way, he still has 14 hrs out of the house each day. You know? PLUS there he will work 4 days a week, here he has been working 7 days a week for years.

I work out of my house, so I can work any where. I am a medical consultant. So I don't have to commute.

If you can afford the gas and want to do it, I say go ahead. There is nothing from stopping your husband from accepting a different position somewhere down the line in order to move him closer to Sedona...who knows, maybe something will come up IN Sedona! I agree that it will be a long haul...Willow Creek Road is right in the middle of the Prescott area and requires using city streets to get there...no highway close by. But, I am one who has made some crazy moves to folllow my dreams and they have always turned out fine...it just sometimes takes some extra work and patience. Good luck to you!

Default P.s.

Have you ever been to Prescott? You may find that you wouldn't mind living there at all. It's a lovely city! Just a thought...

Your right......this is true, sorry. My best advice is to see if you could possibly do it all in one of the two cities......I love sedona but it is touristy....still an amazing place to live but it does get quite a bit of tourists now.....Prescott is great too....I love the atmosphere up there it's soooo calming.

Best of luck to you, either choice is a good one

esselcue & Lola Thanks for your posts Yes we have been to Prescott and it is nice there but we fell in love with Sedona 5 yrs ago and Sedona is why we are moving to Arizona

We have a Prius so the gas won't be an issue. On a bad day we get 45 mpg so it's not going to be a lot. Plus as you mentioned, we are hoping that he will get there and soon be able to find an opening in Sedona, Cottonwood, etc. (he's a pharmacist) Like he said, he would rather drive 1.5 hrs in Arizona then drive 60 miles to work here (in the snow storms).

It's not 100% yet. But I will keep you posted. Thanks for all your advice. You've all been a HUGE help.

So it is kind of unusual for somebody to live in Sedona where the cost of living is the highest and commute to either Cottonwood or Prescott/Prescott Valley for work. Most people just can't afford to do that, although Sedona is definitely a beautiful place to live if you can. Where do you live now, and have you been able to find affordable housing in Sedona?
The MLS showed at least 50 homes under 200k a few weeks ago, for Sedona/VOC. If you're not self employed and need to work, you'll find very few well paying jobs in a tourist/service oriented community
such as Sedona.
