Default Looking to relocate to a small town in northern AZ....

My husband and I are looking for a small town to move to either in NM or northern AZ. We are from a small town in southern NM, but are tired of the rapid growth and want to go somewhere that is not growing (or at least not very fast), but with good schools and some employment opportunity. Anyone have input?

I doubt you will find what you want in AZ. Everything is growing here, rapidly. I would guess far more rapidly than in NM. If you want to avoid growth you need to move where all these people are coming from, somewhere like Michigan. Problem there of course is that decay and economic collapse is even less attractive than growth.

Hi lamesa - I'd suggest the Springerville/Eager area (eastern AZ near the NM line). Beautiful over there - the towns are about 5,000 pop combined. Downside - if an area isn't growing it's usually because there aren't many job opportunities. There's a nice website www.wmonline.com that has some nice info about the towns in the White Mountains. As far as NM, how about Las Vegas? Again, a beautiful area. It's very historical with a pop of around 10,000 (I'm guessing). Beautiful and not growing. Lots of opportunities to get one of the old historic buildings and make it whatever you want. :-)

Gila Bend sounds like what you're looking for. Be a long time before that grows.

Alot of the communities in N Az are Mormon. Its okay with me because I am LDS. I remember kids not playing with kids because of the faith. One really good plus is that they are all family oriented. These towns are a great place to raise your family with home town values. I loved Eagar growing up there and it was the best! If I was rich, I would totally live out my days there. Good luck.
