bullhead city or lake havasu city
I live in minnesota and was looking to buy a vacation place in arizona. I would be using it mostly during the winter months up to march. Bullhead city and lake havasu caught my attention because of the lakes. I like to fish and take my boat out. I am married and have two boys 3 years and 6 mo of age. I plan on visiting these cities to see what i think. I like to go out occasionally and enjoy some nightlife, but i'm looking for some relaxation as well. How would my boys like it? Are there things for them to do? What are the property taxes like in these cities. Are these cities safe to talk a walk anytime? Any suggestions about these cities would be appreciated. Thanks!

Both are very safe and both filled with seniors as they are primarily retirement communities, that isn't all bad. If you like night life probably Bullhead City would be a better place as it is just 5 minutes or so from Laughlin, NV.

Hey Roby...Just ran across your post. LHC has quite a few ex-Mn residents...nice folks ! Lots of senior citizens...the school district has no transportation and the politics are very entertaining. Check the area out, water quality etc. Check the real estate web sites...that will give you some leads....good luck

I traveled through Bull Head a few times on my way to the casinos. I liked Bull head a lot. I think its a neat area and a family town. The Colorado River is lovely. When you get down in that area you're a couple hours from Las Vegas and about six from LA. It isn't a bad deal. I think you'll find that houses are pricey. The best deal if you can find it is a house trade with someone who wants to go North for the summer. No taxes and no vacant property for three months. It's better than a Time Share. I liked LV the one time I went there. It's chaotic and fun and bright lights, but best of all, the food is devine. but it is not a kids town.
When you go do the desert for varylong you learn to shake out the shoes for scorpions, and watch the kids for bites. I live i the north. Desert pests are different than mosquitos and mud dobbers. And you probably won't find rattlers curled up outside your door in the morning in MN either, or see what the baby looks like when the sand fleas bite. When you visit be sure to go to the grocery store and places where parent are and learn about the local pests. There is a whole lot of difference betwen MN and AZ than the five states that sepaarate them.
I've lived in fL, NM and CA. The desert is dry and hot enough to fry an egg on your car for breskfast. I did it one day. It was a mess to clean up. Knowing what I know about desert summers i would be very leary about letting the kids outside for more than 10 minutes at a time. I was seven when i had a heat stroke.

Of the three above communities (I have lived in all of them): if I were to move back to Mohave County----------it would be Kingman assuming I could find a job that paid a decent wage.
