Weather, for sure, I am not convinced cuisine and shopping is closer to Ca than the major Texas cities, I am not even sure the culture is. Again, it depends on where in AZ, where in Ca and where in Tx. We have to remember all 3 are pretty good sized states.

The vast majority of Arizona is like Texas. Least this is my opinion.

I lived in CA for 13 years. This place in NO WAY resembles CA, except for the temps.

Your right, I was born and raised in Los Angeles. Though that was back in the early-mid 70's. I left Ca., cause I couldn't stand California.

Outside of Phx and Tucson it's more like Mississippi.

IMO Arizona's more like Texas in mindset and landscape. Arizona/California/Texas have select areas that really appeal to their cross border neighbors. Austin is a popular destination for Californians, as is Prescott, Arizona and North Scottsdale (although California expats are scattered all over the Valley of the Sun). Although basically a small town, many locals quip that there are more Californians in Prescott than Arizonians (not true even though at times it seems so).

Arizona is for the most part a Republican State and so is Texas.
Arizona reminds me of a Bible Belt state.
Parts of Arizona are liberal, Flagstaff, BullHead City, Tucson, but the rest of the state resembles Texas in its political view.

Well we do have a bad economic outlook like CA. Texas isn't fairing as badly, and NM is doing pretty darn good!

I borrowed this from RYBERT, on the NM thread.
