I am going to the UA next year in tucson, arizona. I've never been to arizona in my life; but kind of fell in love with it when i was 14. I live in NY, close to Long Island. I don't very much care for the city anymore-i like quiet towns. Can anyone tell me of a good place to live in arizona after college that has;
-a good neighborhood (friendly people) -i can stand weather, but any areas not going over 110 in the summer? -a gorgeous area, scenic views, etc.i love hiking and biking; horse riding is a plus -not "in" the city-an hour or so drive away but a town that has some places to shop (not completely in the middle of nowhere) -not expensive area to live in; nice houses 300,000 and under? -AN AREA THAT IS NOT DANGEROUS-low crime,etc. PLEASE tell me anything you know about arizona and a place that might be up to what i'm lookign for. ALL COMMENTS ARE WELCOME. thank you. |

I would think that Prescott, Prescott Valley and Payson would fit your description. Possibly also the Globe/Miami area, but I'm not as familiar with them.

[i]well sunshine, i've been out here for 3 years, from suffolk county....
tucson really isnt a 'city' compared to back home... there are a lot of small towns east of tucson, these areas (sierra vista, willcox, benson) are ok with the people, the schools are semi-shot, but weather dont get too too hot...the mountains are amazing...that you will like.. sierra vista has towns and mall and whatnot, then 20 mins later ya in the mountains... houses are generally under 200k low crime=not tucson south side or phoenix... let me know if ya need anything jon grandjon2003@yahoo.com [/I}I am going to the UA next year in tucson, arizona. Being a HS teacher probably won't buy you a $300k home. Unless you have 2 incomes.

I had a Husky/German Shepard mix that spent most of his time outside. He was a natural sentry dog and loved "patrolling" the back yard year-round. It was hard to get him inside. We now have a Chow/Lab mix. Both were long haired dogs and neither had problems with the heat. Make sure he/she has plenty of water and shade outdoors and let it inside when it wants. We have "doggie doors, so ours come and go as they please. The dog will be fine once it adapts.

If you're going to UA next year as a Freshman, you'll be there 4 years before having to make any decisions, so waiting til you feel it out yourself is probably the best way to go. There are many places like you describe...you just have to figure out what works for you, and no doubt you will once in Tucson.

Benson is a quiet friendly town approx. 43 miles south-east of Tucson. There are a lot of recreation and wilderness areas great for hiking, biking, and horse back riding. Benson is growing, we have a Walmart and there is talk of a Home Depot. You can get a nice place with some acreage for under 300k. |
