Default Want to move to Golden Valley, AZ

Hi there,
I currently live in Miami, FL and am looking into moving to Golden Valley, AZ to be with my boyfriend.( I know its on the other side of the world from Arizona). Golden Valley is about 10 minutes away from Kingman, AZ just to give everyone an idea of where its located. I have my 2-year degree already in Elementary Ed. and want to teach there either in Kingman or Golden Valley and I am looking for tips on that and any other info. you can give me- whether pros or cons on moving there. I don't know much about it since I have never been, although I am headed there and to Vegas in 2 weeks to be with him for a few days! Any helpful hints or advice that anyone could give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

My mother lives in Kingman so I know where you are talking about. I don't know what your particular lifestyle is like, but there is not much to do there. Don't get me wrong for some that is ok. My mother hates Kingman because as she says "there is nothing to do" the nearest mall is the outlets in Laughlin which are not that good. The next real mall is in Henderson, NV (just outside of Vegas). Look up Rhodes Homes. They have a HUGE project that they are putting in out in Golden Valley. It is supposed to take like 10-15 years to complete but once it is done the town will be nice. Kingman is suppose to be growing as well but I don't know the time frame for that. I hope this at least gets you started.

I'm assuming your boyfriend must already have a home in Golden Valley? Otherwise I think I would consider Kingman (a bit cooler in summer) or just move into Bullhead. Bullhead ALWAYS needs teachers. There is NO shopping in Golden Valley other than a couple of convenience stores and a Family Dollar. There are no grocery stores, Wal-Mart or anything. Sorry, I have never been that fond of Golden Valley. There are some newer developments, but other than that, there are a lot of mobile homes on dirt roads where they still have to haul water in etc. But I guess that's a personal choice. Hopefully your boyfriend has a better set up.
I live in Bullhead and have been here almost 19 years, so I know the area well. Golden Valley is kind of a strange place. There are also quite a few meth houses out there as well. Hopefully no one gets offended by that, but it's the truth. Bullhead and Kingman have their own meth problems as well, but Golden Valley is much more rural (some parts VERY RURAL, far out in the desert). Of course, not EVERYONE in Golden Valley is a drug dealer/user, but it's definately there.
As far as teaching goes, you're going to find that most of Arizona is way below national avg for teacher salary. Arizona is ranked the dumbest state if that tells you anything as well.
If you like boating and other water sports, casino life, very HOT dry weather (125+ degree), but mild winters, you will like the area. However, you really might want to come check things out around July/August before you make a commitment to move here

My first comment is to utilize the search function. There has been so many posts and information on Kingman its hard to keep repeating ourselves.
I would say come on to the Kingman area, Kingman Regional just built a new medical facilty out there. There is a school there as well as Kingman.
Yes we have to travel to Henderson-Galleria mall for shopping. But eventually we will have a mall here just don't hold your breath.
Yes the breeze blows here, the movie theater leaves a lot to be desired, bowling alley is to small and crowded and the traffic is getting bad. We do have a Home Depot and Starbucks is currently building a coffee shop.
But I am not leaving anytime soon.

Didn't we all move here to get away from city life?? I know alot of you did. I moved here last year and love it. Except for the fact it's getting more crowded. Living in Golden Valley is great. SHopping is done in Kingman. Weather in the summer is HOT to say the least, but it's 10 degrees hotter in the Bullhead City area. Winters are great. If you want to live in a rural area, away from the noise and crowded city, then Golden Valley is the place.
