I've gotten sun poisoning here in Nashville before. I should have used more sunscreen at the wave pool.

I know all the bad stuff, I read all your posts haha. At least it's better than PHX, I think so anyways. Believe me, if your neg all the time about it, it's just more stress and ulcers and just not worth it. I'm tired of being cranky and b*tching about where I live all the time.
I learned a lot about AZ getting my degree at ASU in geography. They used to send all the respiratory illness patients here because of the clean arid air.... but then tourists and old people kept bringing in their native plants to make their yards pretty and now we have the worst allergies ever! Then you add pollution to that and we're screwed
That's all WW2 stuff in the soils, there were no safety rules or organization back then. They just fired at whatever they felt like that day and they didn't know harmful effects back then either. Don't blame the military today, they are trying to clean up the past mistakes as best they can. All the testing today is very contained and everything is documented, believe me, I know, I work there.

I know several people who have lupus here.
I actually have to use a nebulizer for my asthma and can hardly stand it so I have to look for a way out of here. In the midwest and other places I hardly used my inhaler. The nebulizer makes my heart beat so fast I just can't stand it. I don't think I have been able to sleep well all week since I have started using nebulizer treatments.

I am hopefully going to try to stick out the school year then move ASAP this summer. I am looking at going anywhere where there are teaching jobs. I want to get as far away from pesticides as possible. At many schools here we have a lot of kids with learning disabilities and behavior problems. Many of these kids have mental disorders. Like last year, I had 7 kids in my classroom that were suspected as having ADHD. There are also a lot of kids with Asperger's and Autism here.

AZ sure is a black hole! I know what you mean about not being able to leave. Once I finished school I tried to get a job out of state but no one is hiring in my field really and even when my parents finally got out I still got stuck. It got so bad in PHX I was ready to file bankruptcy and repo my car and living with my parents in CA till i found something but I was lucky to find this job! I'm happy right now. I know Yuma isn't paradise, but compared to PHX it is! I'm gonna make the most of it while I'm here.

Well we finally made our way out here...the drive across country was beautiful, and AZ is a very pretty state too...your right though...completely different than KY. Yuma is a lot nicer than we expected...there seems to be a lot of new restaurants, hotels, and shopping centers. I haven't noticed the air quality being too bad...but thats prbly because in KY we lived in the Ohio Valley and the air was prbly worse there. I have noticed that the water tastes really bad...like there is lead or salt or something funky in it. Does anyone know where there is a grocery store that sells any organic produce? Im not a huge organic freak but I do like to buy organic vegetables and fruits. I havent been able to find any here though.

AZ sure is a beautiful state! Glad you see the good yuma has to offer so far! There are no organic grocery stores I could find, if you find one, be sure to let me know!!! The Fry's by my apt does have an organic foods section and some pretty nice veggies (organic and otherwise) so I don't think I'll go insane lol..
I wouldn't drink the water here by the way..... rat poisening, flouride, chlorine and many other unidentifiable substances exist in there. lol.. There are water places all over and you can get clean water for .25 a gal for drinking and stuff.

Yes, there are a lot of substances in the water here. The county tries to create clean water, but it tastes horrible. Lots of mineral in it. To avoid the taste, get bottled water. It's not that expensive & you will stay healthier.
Food retailers........ There are several grocer's in town, but Walmart seems to have the most selection. They restock at night, so go during the week late at night will get the freshest stuff. They do have "organic" foods, you just have to look for it. Welcome to Yuma. Give me a shout if you need more help.

the water tastes bad cause it is bad they tell you not to drink it, its full of bacteria especially in the foothills they have had bad outbreaks in the water supply. it has tons of flouride and chlorine in it. organic produce well go to walmart it has some, and frys has some but not much availiable here.
