My husband want our family to vacation in Sedona in July. Is the heat bearable in the summer? We will be able to survive doing a jeep tour and side trips to the Grand Canyon in the heat? It's just too hard to take the kids out of school during the other seasons now that they're in high school!

Temps can get warm, but not nearly as bad as PHX. Youd be amazed at the climate difference between the two cities, its amazing. I remember leaving Sedona, with a coat on, and 2 hours later down Rt. 17 I was sweating in PHX. Just be sure to bring lots of water if you intend on hiking, and wear your sunscreen, as the sun will toast you in no time. Jeep tours are really cool, I recommend the Pink Jeep Tours, theyre the best IMO. You cant miss em, theyre literally bright pink Jeep Wranglers, modified to carry more passengers. Be warned, the rides are really rough, but the views you get are worth the beating. LOL

Thanks for your help! We've never been out west at all, so we have nothing to compare the heat to. I guess we'll try to do our hiking in the mornings. Can you rent the pink jeeps yourself or do you have to go with a tour guide? Any other "don't miss" things to do around Sedona?

I have lived in Sedona for the past 12 years.
You will be fine in July. It is the hottest months, but not as bad as Phoenix. Grand Canyon and Flagstaff area will be cooler. Check out also White mountain are. This is great too. Around Payson and Flagstaff. Also the painted desert. Tempreture is also better up there, cooler. ![]() |

yes, it can be pretty hot during the day in July. anywhere from 90 to 105. but late afternoon it starts to cool down, and the evenings are spectacular. unlike phoenix the temperature in sedona will dip 35 degrees from the high of the day. on a hot day, just go up into Oak Creek Canyon, and there is plenty to see and do, and its substantially cooler. late afternoons, usually a breeze from Flagstaff comes down the canyon into uptown Sedona. it is still very nice here. cool evenings and mornings, and hot afternoons. sometimes a monsoon blows through in the afternoon, and cools it down 25 degrees. you can tell I like it here.

thanks for all your help - we are used to humid PA and FL summers so we should be fine. What is there to do in Oak Creek Canyon?
