Winslow climate
I'm thinking of building a holiday home on some land I own 5 miles outside of Winslow. Some general questions:
- How many days of sunshine are there in Winslow?
- Does Winslow get a lot of snow in the winter?
- I've noticed that the nights are a lot colder than the days in Winslow - are they bearable during the Spring and the Fall?
- Is this heat dry heat or wet heat?

Dry heat, some snow but more sunshine than anything. The summers are a bit warm during the day but cool off at night. It isn't as high an elevation as Flagstaff so obviuosly not as much cold and snow. Both spring and fall are wonderful..

Got to differ with nmnita...lived in Flag, drove to Winslow daily on a route.
Winslow sits in a "river valley"...in Arizona that means a depression in the earth with a dry bed of silt and sage, occasionally seeing raging waters from storms miles away, rest of the time dry. We have alot of "rivers" here, that see actual water a few days per year, or decade.
Many nights in Winslow are colder than the higher elevation Flagstaff. Plus, driving into Winslow you learn to turn on the defroster before the last hill is topped otherwise it's instant frosted windshield from the lowlying humidity in winter morns.
Summer temps can approach Phoenix temps many days, but do cool off at night.
Which way is your land and have you actually walked it or just seen pics?

aren't we saying pretty much the same thing? Exception might be the colder nights, but I think that is rare..We have relatives and friends who live in Winslows, have spent time there, do not remember many nights colder than Flagstaff???

Not flamin, but consistently nights were colder, and many days were colder. We almost moved to Winslow from Flag, it was the even colder weather that factored into the nope decision. Many mornings I left Flag, low 20's to arrive in Winslow, high teens. Factor in the wind and alot of days it felt good to be back in Flag from out east.
Winslow is a nice place, alot prettier than it's I-40 face.

Oh, I am not considering your view as flaning, I just don't see we differ much except I don't see that Winslow, as a rule is as cold as Flagstaff. As for the windchill, that is something a little different. I hate wind more than anything else..

gotta admit, I thought much the same. But then again, it is good deer and antelope hunting area from what I hear(don't hunt).
That's why I asked if they've walked the land or bought site unseen.

Winslow has legendary temperature inversions in winter that trap cold air near the ground. The inversions can leave Winslow very much colder than the surrounding higher ground for days and days following winter storms. It doesn't even warm much during the day. I have a house in the mountains south of Winslow and it is always fascinating to see the temps fall twenty degrees coming down the mountain into Winslow when these inversions are in place. Pollutants from cars and fireplace are also trapped and the air can get pretty murky.
What I don't like about Winslow and the whole area, though, is the wind. It can be absolutely vicious there when a front is passing by.
