I have never been to Nogales but thought it might be a new experience to try. Would it be a good experience or a dreadful one? LOL! I guess I'm wondering if it's safe these days? Any advice on going there? I thought it might be fun to do some shopping...

Thanks!

We have always been disappointed with the shopping in Nogales. I keep thinking that there must be more than what you find along the main streets where all the tourists go. The flea markets in Phoenix have better stuff and you don't have to drive all day to get to them. I think if you have specific needs, something like patio furniture, and know where to go, you will be ok.

The food in Nogales is also pretty hit and miss. It's best to have some restaurants in mind before you head down there, many are pretty crappy.

Thanks. I just scratched Nogales off my list of things to do.

However, I do want to go to Rocky Point. Perhaps that's another thread...

Nogales is a fun place to visit. It is one of the top tourist's destinations for Arizona. The Grand Canyon and Laughlin are always high on the list. Cigs and booze--best prices in the World at Ueta Duty Free; better than any of the 50 airport Duty Free stores I have been to. SImple prescriptions. I use Esperson (Desoximetasone) by Aventis. I can get a tube for 4 bucks in Nogal. In Phoenix, that would be 70 to see the Dermatologist and 16 for the script at Wal-Mart. Just tell ICE what you have on your way out and he will tell you to "have a nice day." Haircut 5 Bucks or less in Nogal-16 in Phoenix. Nogales Unified sends their teachers to Laser Dental for zero deductible dental treatment, or they can pay the deductable and go in AZ. I'm going on 7 years with a 150 usd crown from Nogales. That would be 800-900 in Tucson or Phoenix. Regis is the classis bar with a great mix of tourists and locals. Great prices and services. If you want to eat--the Pizza Hut in Nogales, AZ has a great buffet for lunch. There are some well known restaurants in Nogales, Sonora for the more adventurous. The best filet mignon I ever had was in Hermosillo. 10,000,000,000 pounds of produce comes through the port every year--they do have some fresh stuff. The casino is great/safe and a good place to play the horses and have a cerveza. Avoid street hustlers and prosies. It is illegal to negotiate with the prescription hustlers on the street. Just walk into the farmacia--they will speak English.

Salud.
