Default Housing in or near St. Johns, Arizona

My apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but I looked for several minutes in different threads and found nothing about St. Johns AZ.

My husband and I are in Hurst, TX; I have a potential employment opportunity in St. Johns but I am aware that housing there is close to non-existent. I have been able to find a few listings for houses for sale and my husband spoke with someone who has a house about 20 miles out that might be ready in the next few weeks.

We're both quite tired of the Dallas-Fort Worth hassle. The economy here is collapsing around our ears and frankly I've found the attitude about the whole mess to be 'oh, wait and it will get better'. Perhaps, but I'd rather not wait it out back here. That, and I've got 'sand in my shoes'; as much as I detest Florida I'd go back there because I've relative there who actually like me but the job market there is tanked. My husband was laid off from his job of 15 years due to sales in the telephonic system being considerably less in the first 2 quarters of the year.

I'm relatively certain that he may have to do something in order to switch careers and that I'll be the main source of cash in the house for some time to come. We have discussed a move extensively and Arizona rather popped up out of the blue one night.

Does anyone out there have any solid information about housing and employment in Apache County or areas within 30 miles of St. Johns?

Thanks for listening/oklatex

I am a St. Johns native of 32 years, and I can tell you that the housing avaliability is extremely limited. The town is very small, one grocery store, one circle k, ect. Some people cant stand it there while others never want to leave, it depends on the type of lifestyle you lead. The crime is almost non exsistent (despite the most recent tradgedy) and the schools are great. Many people say it is the perfect place to raise a family and live a less hectic life. The SRP generating station has hit a big boom just within the last 3 months, so all of the recent employment opportunities have caused the rental market to soar with profit, but there are still some homes for sale, if you are really interested I would recommend contacting the Chamber of Commerce. Good Luck!
