Talking University of Arizona

I'm proud to say that I'm a Wildcat! I'd recommend that you live in the dorms if you are an incoming freshman. Living on campus during your first year is the best thing you can do for your social and academic life.

The Student Union on campus is great. Restaurants are poppin' up all around campus. I'm jealous cuz I didn't have that many options when I was a student. You can easily find places to live around campus - apartments, rental homes, sorority houses.

The rest of Tucson has its good parts and bad parts. If you love to hike and be outdoors, Tucson is your spot. If you're a city girl and lookin' for a serious club scene, Tucson aint for you.

But if you keep your mind focused on graduating and find a good group of friends, you'll love your University of Arizona experience.

Yep. U of A is smack-dab in the middle of Tucson. Not rural, except if you come from a city of 5 million, like I did. I'm loving the difference in time it takes to get across town, etc., from that perspective.

On campus living is pretty much a freshman experience, and there are no dorm cafeterias. You must buy meals at the fast-food campus choices, if you're a 'dormy.' Beyond that, it is most definitely a commuter college, no matter what their brochures say.

I go to U of A. I never lived on campus so I don't have much info in that department. "Party school"... I think it may have gained notoriety for being a party school in the past, but I think it's been toned down since then.

The food on campus can get old pretty quick. The Union has the normal fast food staple, McD's, Chick-fill-A, Panda, a regular old deli, but I prefer to eat upstairs at the Cactus Grill, they have great breakfast. If you want REALLY good food, you'll venture down to University Blvd, where you can find [in my opinion] better restaurants, like Pei Wei, No Anchovies, The Fat Greek and even Starbucks.

U of A has lots excellent programs, depending on the field you choose. I'm in the Visual Communications program, so I can really only help you if that's your fancy. Their language department is also really strong, with lots of variety on what language you decide to learn. [I'm minoring in Japanese.]

What else, what else... if you choose to live off campus, be prepared to pay a lot for a parking permit. I use a garage and it costs $500 a year. Although, if you live near campus, Tucson is very bike-friendly [so long as you stay away from busy streets like Speedway] and you can bike to school. The weather is great for biking, especially in Fall and Spring [like now!].

Is there anything else specifically you need to know? I'm a Junior there now and it seems like there's so much more to talk about... ^_^
