What was wrong with Temecula in the first place? Great schools, lots to do, easy drive to the beaches, nice family environment, safe neighborhoods, etc. It is relatively affordable all things considered.

Not by will.

Lived here as a child from age 2-9; I can recall I certainly didn't view it the way I do now. The Heat was no big deal, as kids will play outside and swim, and get burnt, and nothing will stop them. That's how it was when I was a kid, anyway.

Then moved back here in 2008 by military orders, at the age of 23, ...eh... hahaha. What can I say? I'm not a kid anymore, and there's no pool in my backyard; so I definitely don't like the summers here, and if I could leave right now, I would. However, I love the winter and spring out here; it never gets too cold. Because if there's anything I hate MORE than 120 degrees weather, it's when it's colder than 65* every single friggin day of the year, or at least a good portion of the year.

We will be leaving in 2014. Will I come back here when I'm older? I wouldn't count it out... especially if I'm much older (like 60), because like most seniors, I already KNOW, I'm going to prefer this dry heat over any kind of cold weather or humid heat, due to arthritis or something. I have a naturally low body temp, hence why I hate cold weather at my current age, but I can imagine it'll be worse when I'm older. I'll just make sure I buy a house with a pool. :-)

Funny how posts get resurrected! I'm the OP, and no we have not moved. Still in Ga!! Our time frame for moving would have been that summer back in '07 when my son was heading for H.S. or gasp...now!! He is heading off to college!!!

Thinking on where/if to go. Son's college is in North Carolina which is an easy drive from here or a plane ride away if we head out West. The recent crazy hot temps here in Ga, reminded me of how much I hated living in the air all of the time in AZ, and dreading the summer .

I left Arizona in the fall of 2002 to a small town in Tennessee. 6 weeks later, I was back here. Maybe if I had been in one of the bigger cities around there (such as Memphis or Nashville) it might have been better for me over there. But glad to be living in Arizona again.

We are on round three for Arizona. Went to college here, and then moved to California and Wisconsin for work. Moved back from 1983 to 1989. We recently bought our retirement home in Sun City West. It is our second home for the next several years, as our primary residence is in Orange County California. We talked my parents into retiring here a dozen years ago.

Good for you guys! Being able to go between here and OC must be nice in the summer!

I was born and raised in Detroit, until I was 26, and I moved here to Phoenix on a whim. Like many others from the east, was sick and tired of the cold winters (I developed arthritis at a young age, and the cold was really painful for me), and lack luster employment market. I spent five years here, then went back to Detroit last year. Took me six months to remember I left Detroit for a reason, and returned to Phoenix.

Regret it? Well, no, not really. There are things I really do like about Michigan - green stuff all around, a lot more little "mom & pop" type stores, restaurants, the small towns in the northern parts of the state, much more touristy type stuff, the lakes (grew up minutes away from Lake St. Clair, spent nearly every weekend on the water), the forests, considerably cheaper housing, ability to keep my car clean for more than a few hours at a time...

I also learned that while I like all that stuff, it's not enough to enjoy living there long term. While the housing was cheaper, the vast majority are in areas that I wouldn't want to live in, much less raise kids there. The cost of living for just about everything else is higher, especially food and fuel. If you live in the Detroit suburbs, you have a several hour drive ahead of you to get away from "the city". I'm really involved in off road 4x4s, and here in northern Glendale - I'm 30 minutes away from decent trails. It's pretty easy for me to come home from work, hop in the truck, run some trails, and be back at work the next day. In Detroit - it pretty much took an entire weekend for a trail run given the drive time, setting up the camper, etc, not to mention the gas I burned in the tow rig. If I needed parts/tools for a project, seemed like nearly everything was available within an hour or so of where I lived, everything was basic auto parts, to heavy duty industrial machine tools.

Here, almost everything is chain store based, and I've had difficulty in finding even what I used to consider basic supplies for some projects (largely electronic/tech stuff). But on the other hand, I do find even the 115 degree heat to be FAR easier to deal with here vs the 90 degree heat in Detroit, largely due to the lack of humidity. Heck, I don't even have working AC in any of the vehicles I own at the moment, and I'm dealing with it just fine (although, granted, I have a 15 minute commute to work, work in a shop, and my schedule allows me to avoid almost all traffic...if I had to sit in rush hour traffic for an hour, I'd suspect I'd be in misery without AC, lol).

So, I don't know....Phoenix may not be where I spend the rest of my days...may not even be Arizona. But it's a good compromise for now.

We are Ohio natives and moved to Gilbert Az and lived there for 5 months, decided we wanted to live by the beach so we went to Gulf Shores, Alabama. Big MISTAKE. The humidity is awful. When you would wake up in the morning the bed linens would be damp from the humidity and every morning you woke up to pea soup fog. I suffer from migraines and the constant changing weather patterns killed me. I was in bed almost every day. We moved back out to Arizona and have been here for 2 years. I love it. They say that hot is hot, but there is a difference to those of us with health issues. I had 15-20 migraines a month in Alabama, no life. In Arizona 2-3 a month. A big difference!
