Move to Phoenix or Gilbert
I recently attended an out of state teacher fair in MI and was offered teaching positions with Gilbert and Cartwright Schools. Wondering which area has more affordable housing, better schools (our son will be in 4th grade) and diversity. We are a couple of mixed ethnicities, Black/White and Hispanic. I want to make sure we find a place that my son will receive an excellent education and where we will all feel accepted. We seem to have it all in MI but want to leave the winters behind.

What do you mean by affordable? How much can you afford? Cartwright is more of a central phx/downtown district, so the student base would be a lot more hispanic. Gilbert will be more white and more affluent.

In my opinion, Gilbert has much better schools, Cartwright is going to have more diversity, if that is important to you.

Don't even think about Cartwright. It is one of the worst school districts in the state. They have diversity, alright, and your son will end up being picked on by everyone because he is not black enough or not hispanic enough or not white enough. I would move to Texas before I would put my child through that school system.
Gilbert is closer to lily white for sure but you will be accepted there just fine. And the schools are top-rated.

I left Gilbert 7 years ago, but I think it's still mostly middle to upper middle class, with a few small affluent neighborhoods. Danny Ainge lived in one of those neighborhoods in Gilbert, not Paradise Valley or north Scottsdale like most pro athletes. (By the way, he is one super nice, down to earth, family guy for those of you who enjoyed watching him play for the Suns).
